10yr old to Rajasthan-malaria question

Hi,

My doctor says that it's not a good idea to give kids anti-malaria tablests as it will discolour any second teeth that have yet to come through. She also said that the best prevention to avoid getting malaria is long shirts and plenty of DEET repellent. I'm not quite satisfied with this as I'm thinking if I'm somewhere in a village in Rajasthan and my son gets malaria, what if I can't get him to a hospital quickly? Can anyone provide me with some advice on this one? I'm starting to get a bit concerned as we leave Australia on Sept21 for Delhi.

Thanks

I would assume that your doctor is talking about doxycycline. If your doctor only knows about one anti malarial I think it would be better to find yourself another doctor, preferably an expert in tropical medicine.

malaria med

Hi,

We will also be traveling to Rajasthan with 2 eight year old children and our doctor in US has prescribed Malarone. It is supposed to be very effective against malaria.

Be very dissatisfied with that!

For a start you could remind your doctor that mossies bite through material.
