Woman alone in Gujarat

Hi there,

I have a very cheap flight into Bhavnagar in Gujarat at the start of March and wanted to spend a week in Bhuj before heading up to Rajasthan. I do think for myself normally but a woman I recently met told me that she was really badly hassled in Gujarat on her own, being pawed by men and children trying to get her bag from her. I guess she was pretty upset too cos her passport had been stolen from her hotel safe so that would have added to her story somewhat. Can any lone female travellers tell how they got on recently in Gujarat and where were the places that they went to?

Cheers
Noz

I dont think there's any problem for alone woman, well but some sort of safety requirements are necessary in order to keep your experience enjoyeable, well atlease keep your bag locked in hotel room , for teasing reasons, the reason is that some people or say children finds foreigner, a person from outer world.. for example skin color, your outfits, being so cooeprative etc etc... but i dont think It all sums up in trouble for a woman travelling alone...

good luck for your journey in Gujarat

i never left my passport ANYWHERE. had it with me always. is it ever safe to leave true valuables in the care of any hotel management ? i don't mean in just india either.

as a woman, who did spent some time alone in delhi and chennai, i had a great time. i was careful to stick to places with lots of other people around, (crowded market places... didn't wander off to back alleys or empty, far corners of monuments), and never stayed out too late on the streets.

i was followed, by children, in a small village, but was with my indian friends at the time. seems pale skin and hair are a nice novelty for the little ones to look at. i wrote my friend, back home, and told her it might be like walking on 8 foot stilts through a city of midgets. people definatly notice you ! i actually felt very safe there.

But then you risk losing everything if you ever get in a hold up!! The answer is to choose judiciously where you decide to leave your valuables. For example, bank lockers are many times safer than a hotel locker.
