![]() this topic went quite off the track...!!! Gujarat is a Dry state in the legal sense. However, as other posters have elaborated, there is a elaborate network of bootleggers and suppliers. Once you are here, you probably will find the solution... Cannot confirm about Wines per se. But Whisky and Beer would be easily available. vodka depends on the quality of your supplier ![]() Will try and get some info on the permits part in a couple of days for clarity's sake ![]()

Just figured out from the nearest Wine shop.
Good news for people visiting Gujarat State, but can't do without booze Upon producing your passport (if a foreigner) or Driving license (for indians outside gujarat state) along with hotel detail ( in which you are staying), the wine shop can officially issue you a permit for a nominal sum of about Rs 200 ( don't remember the excat amt). And voila.. you can legally buy wine in gujarat, but at a premium. I am not too sure about the validity in terms of duration for this tentative permit, but atleast you can.

LOL, yes, you have a point there
I'd heard of these permits, they've been brought up on this thread even; I'm just surprised to learn there exist wine shops at all. Good news for Anastasia, you'd think! ![]() |

most of these are restricted and in some of the premium hotels of the city... hence not everybody knows about them AND as Ashish rightly said... if it's available for Home delivery.. why bother ![]() |

Hi Anastisia, the best thing is to get a liquor permit from the Indian High comission in your own country at the same time as getting your visa. liqior permits are free and are valid for 6 months. Then when you go Gujarat find out where the Govt.wine shops are and buy from there. you are allowed 20bottles of beer or 2 bottles of whisky per each permit per week.i am not very sure but i think you can renew after 6 months at that wine shop

I have a license I obtained from the proibition shop. I get 80 small beers a month. that is 4 units per month cost around 73 USD a month expensive. I also make trips to Mumbai for wine. My preferance is Miazma. Sula my second choice. Quite good. Things might be expensive but what else do you have to spend you money on with no five star restuarants to eat in. Don't get me wrong I have eaten in several nice restuarants here in Ahmedabad but then again no wine with the meals so we just cook and eat at home with our wine and beer!
