Where to break journey Bhuj - Delhi
Soon we'll be heading off and will finish in Gujarat at Bhuj. From there we need to get back to Delhi. Where is the best spot to break the journey? To be difficult I would like to get to Delhi late afternoon/evening. I am a lone female travelling with 8 yr old and baby (14 mths)..

It dependes how are you traveling from Bhuj to Delhi. Bundi and Jodhpur are more or less at the middle of the way.

I believe there's a flight from Bhuj to Mumbai, and flights from Mumbai to Delhi, so how about Mumbai?
I know that you won't be considering Mumbai at all, and that flights aren't what you're looking at, but why should I assume when you only need to put a bit of effort into your post. One thing you should be aware of, many Indian people take you at your word, literally, so the Mumbai flight option would seem like a reasonable option and one they may suggest. Help yourself, give details. I feel like a patronising git for suggesting the details you need to give, I mean, you're taking a 14 month old all the way to India, so you must have a great deal of common sense. How long have you got to get from Bhuj to Delhi? What budget? Trains, planes, buses....... What interests you? Where will you visited before Bhuj? What time of the year? Mt. Abu, Udaipur, Barmer, Jodhpur and Pushkar are 5 very different options, and there are many others. There's also the area around Patan/Modhera. (not been, but Jorge has) |

Oh dear I am bad... As i said soon I will be there (3 weeks). I am spending 4 weeks in Gujarat flying in and out of Delhi. I can't afford internal flights. I'd like to break the journey approximately half way. On my onward journey to Gujarat I will be spending 3 nights in Jodhpur at a family hotel I know very well. I thought travelling from Bhuj to Ahmedabad would add some hours to the journey... Can I go direct by train to Delhi from Bhuj. If so i will choose anywhere halfway to break the journey..

There's a train departing Bhuj (3 days a week) at about 15:15, it gets to Abu Rd (for Mt Abu) at about 23:00, then Ajmer (for Pushkar) at about 05:30 and Jaipur at about 07:15.
The other 4 days a week it goes via Ahmedabad, so departs Bhuj at about 11:00. There are daytime and overnight trains from Bhuj to Ahmedabad. Bhuj-Ahmedabad trains. |

Had a good "Tadoba" trip

Hi DesertLover,
If you want to visit some places in Rajasthan then yes go ahead and take halt at Udaipur or Jodhpur. If you want to save time then I would prefer two ways. 1) Take a direct train to Delhi from Bhuj
2) Go to Ahmedabad via AC Volvo/Train or private vehicle (It will take 5 - 6 Hours) and from Ahmedabad go to delhi via Rajdhani. (Rajdhani are superfast trains and running around 100 KMs/Hour speed on Ahmedabad - Delhi Route. Ahmedabad - Delhi Rajdhani, running at 6:00 PM from Ahmedabad and reaching Delhi @ 6:30 AM (next day morning). You can also think about taking flights from Ahmedabad - Delhi as Flight fairs are less now days... (I just searched yesterday and from Ahmedabad to Delhi it is 2200 RS) To save time, you can also thin about to goto Abu Road from Bhuj and from there you can take delhi bound trains. (but its a long journey and I would not prefer). Regards Rushi |

Thanks for the messages. I don't want to rush as I have an 8 yr old and baby and would be too much for them. I can't afford a flight. Anyway I have booked Bhuj - Ajmer but I am perplexed by Ajmer - Delhi. I don't recognise the stations in delhi that are listed. where is Delhi Cantonment?

When you get off the train in Delhi Canton it is a short drive to the hotel region near the airport in the Mahipalpur region.

Thanks... I don't want to be near Airport. I want to be close to Paharganj. the Ajmer trains to delhi arrive too late at night for us so perhaps we will have to take the bus to Delhi (now that I have bought ticket for Bhuj - Ajmer).
