Wankaner or Morbi

Anyone stayed at Wankaner or Morbi?
We would like to travel from Junagadh to Bhuj, and thinking of making a stop at one of these two places, but which one is the best? And is there any decent accomodation?

We stayed at Wankaner about 5 years ago. We stayed in the (pretty basic)guest accommodation attached to the palace, and ate with the ex Maharajah and his family. It was definitely an experience not to be missed. They were still only just getting into tourism, and recovering from the earthquake.

I think that staying by the palace is no longer an option, and you stay in the summer palace in the town, although this link implies you can stay at both

I don't remember seeing any other hotels or similar in town, but I guess I may not have noticed.

If you are planning to go to Bhuj from Junagadh, you'd be passing through Rajkot and then Morbi.

Makes more sense to stay in Morbi, wankaner would be off the route. Morbi has a couple of decent hotels.

If needed, let me know, can check up for Wankaner also.

However, if you want to push it, you can make it to Bhuj also ( i think the distance is approx 400 odd kms).

Update :

Just spoke to a friend.

The distance would be further shortened to some 310 odd kms. If you bypass Gandhidham. Take a right from Bhachau and road of Dudhni towards Bhuj.

The road is pretty Ok all through ( means some work is going on in certain patches

)

I don't know the road but in 1991 (yes, it's old but always in my memory), I have spent a marvelous time at Wankaner Palace with Maharani and Maharadjah.

Hi,

There are a couple of Hotels in Morbi.

Thakar Lodge and Hotel - extremely basic.
Mahesh Hotel - Sanala Road, Near Bus Stand - Decent acco.
Shiv Ajanta Hotel - 3 Star - Details of it here : http://www.cleartrip.com/hotels/info...ajanta--171433

Wankaner would be around 35kms from Morbi ( meaning you'd be covering approx 70 kms) just to get back to the same point and then on to Bhuj.
