Vadodara / Baroda toy train

Hello,

My partner is a model railway enthusiast and would like to visit the toy train at Sayaji Baug park in Vadodara in November.

We know there is a diesel train running but he thinks there may be a small steam train in the loco shed and it is this he wishes to see.

Could anyone confirm this and, better still point me in the direction of someone at the park or a tourist office I could email for further details (he would like to meet up with and talk to the person responsible to the steam train if indeed it exists there).

I know this is a long shot but any replies would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Claire

Excellent - that was very quick! I am impressed.

I'm trying to find a website / opening times / location details for the museum but failing. Any ideas?

Many thanks for your help :-)

Lonely Planet 2007 mentions opening hours for the apparently "neighboring" Laxmi Vilas Palace on Nehru Road as being 10:30-17:30 Tue-Sun (admission Rs. 100), and which they say tickets for are available from this Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum. So whether or not this suggests they share the same opening hours I can't tell you, and such opening hours will be subject to change, of course.

They call the latter "underwhelming" btw, and complain you don't get much for your money at the former either. They do mention a nearby "fine" baodi (baoli, baori, or step-well. These can indeed be spectacular.)

The Baroda Museum in your Sayaji Bagh park they seem to speak rather more highly of. No mention of any toy trains there though, so I don't know. There may very well be one.

For contacting the Gujarat Tourism Board, try to get a hold of (do it by phone at appropriate hours if email doesn't work) http://www.gujarattourism.com/. They list an office in Baroda on their contacts page.

The museum is open from 10.3o am to 5.30 pm on all days except monday.

Though the engine [The Flying Scotsman] is outside the museum so it can viewed anytime/anyday.

See attached photo.

There used to be a toy train at the garden, but not sure if it still functions.

The location of the museum is at Laxmi vilas palace [motibaug cricket ground].

The museum also houses plenty of original paintings by world famous artists as well as many art objects. Worth visiting.

Thank you so much for your help - you have made his day! He has spent ages trying to find pictures like that one on the internet but there just don't seem to be any.
