Somnath & Dwarka Trip - Seeking Advice
Hello Fellow Travellers,
I am planning a trip in the last week of December from Pune to Somnath and Dwarka. My plan is as under. Leave Pune to Veraval on Thursday. Reach Somnath on Friday Evening and have Darshan. Travel around Somnath on Saturday. Leave for Dwarka on Saturday Night and reach early Morning on Sunday. Have Darshan on Sunday and visit places around Dwarka. Travel to Bet Dwarka on Monday and return back. Leave Dwarka to reach Ahmedabad on Tuesday. Take Ahmedabad to Pune / Mumbai Train on Tuesday evening. Request you to please let me know if this plan would help me cover all the areas in and around Dwarka and Somnath. |

Near Somnath - you have Sasan Gir which is an hour's drive away. Ideally, you should take a jungle safari either in early morning or evening.
Places around Dwaraka - apart from the Rukmini Devi Mandir, you have Nageshwar Temple. Nageshwar is on the way to Bet Dwaraka, so you can cover it along with that. You can cover all places in Dwaraka and around in 1 day itself.

I would prefer to visit Sansan Gir (Only Asiatic Lion) forest. (Avoid Sat-Sunday) you will really enjoy specially in winter period.
Also you can think of Div (a beautiful beach) but avoid if you have time and traveling constrain. Think of Marrine Life Sceantury near Dwarka, only kind of Scenatury in India) Regards Rushi |

Hi Folks,
Thanks for the information. I also wanted to know any good places to stay. I am looking at accomodations in the range of around 500-750 per day both at Somnath and at Dwarka. Can you please suggest some good places to stay. The only precondition is that it should be in walkable distance to the Temples or near the sea in Dwarka. |

Your first day is quite crowded. Harshad Mataji is where Lord Krishna and Mother Rukmini are supposed to have been married. Where Lord Krishna completed his avatara is Bhalka Tirth, very near Veraval. Perhaps you would also visit Chorwad, the Ambani home-town and sea beach, for which you have to take a small detour from Mangrol. All these places are on the Dwarika-Somnath route.

Perhaps you can go to Nageshwar on the second day. We did not go to Gopi kund. Perhaps you can also skip that. Between Porbandar to Bhalka, nothing to eat.
