Practical info Gujarat - hotels, driver
Hi,
As I didn't find much info before my trip to Gujarat, I thought I'd post the itinerary I did last November - December, the hotels I stayed in and a good driver I drove with for part of the trip. I landed in Mumbai and flew on to Bhuj – stayed at Gangaram http://www.indiamike.com/reviews/sho...uct/125/cat/15 – really nice, though basic, little place and very nice staff. Virtually no other tourists in the area apart from the people staying there ! Visits to the tribal villages were a little disappointing as the driver took me from craft sale to the next. Make sure to tell your driver what you expect ! From there I went to Little Rann of Kutch, staying at http://www.littlerann.com/kooba-huts.html. The safari in the desert was really nice, saw a lot of wild ass, blue bull, pelicans, flamingos, visited some people who live there working in the salt pans... Fascinating. The hut I stayed in was very nice (no power - they have water and very nice new bathrooms, but without shower). Then I moved on to Jamnagar, stayed at President Hotel http://www.hotelpresident.in ,very nice and helpful owner, but the hotel is more like a business hotel – no other tourists in town ! Then on to Dwarka – really nice ! Some small ghats, very nice tempel, by the sea… I stayed at the Residency Hotel – nice and clean. Then to Sasan Gir to do a safari and see the lyons. I stayed at Amidhara Resort http://www.nivalink.com/amidhara/index.html - quite nice (brand new and clean), nice staff. Then to Diu for a couple of relax days in the sun – stayed at Hoka Resort http://www.resorthoka.com – veeeery nice !! And then back to Mumbai for 4 days, staying at Residency Hotel http://www.residencyhotel.com/ - very nice but small room. I hired a driver from Jamnagar to Dwarka, and then a couple of days later from Dwarka on to Sasan Gir and Diu. Nice guy, good and safe driver and speaks good English. Name and mobile number: Mustaqeem Juneja, +919904731031. Isabelle |

Thanks for the hotel info; I'm hoping to go to Gujarat again on my next visit to Mom India and those will come in handy!

Isabelle,
Nice info about Gujarat. The huts in Dharangadhra looks pretty well and in their web, they say hot water..., the other hotels a bit pricey (I know Gangaram is not expensive, I've been there). All the best Jorge |
