Patan or Mehsana

Hello,
What is the smartest thing to do?
Staying in Patan and visiting Modhera and Vadnagar, or staying in Mehsana and visiting Patan, Modhera & Vadnagar?

After these places we're going the direction of Mt Abu. So maybe Mehsana is the best option?

Thanks for advice.

I had stayed in mehsana- just an average city. I think it's better if you stay in patan. Modhera is just an hour away from patan.

Patan is a great place with loads of character. The ambiance at the street during the day is really impressive and you have quite a lot of monuments to visit at town and at the outskirst. In my gallery (old pages from 2006) you can see some pictures from Patan.

Still there are some advantages of staying in mehsana. Modhera is best visited early in the morning which is quite possible from mehsana. All you have to do is just take an auto (for about 300rs). Make sure you go before it starts getting crowded.
So if you are staying for 2 days then spend one night in mehsana, visit modhera and then move towards patan.

Hi,

It would depend on what your itinery is and what is your further tour plan.

Patan has some very basic hotels - quite decent. Mehsana has better hotels compared to that. ( that is if you are finicky).

I think you can go to Modhera from Patan also. Through Chanasma (presuming that you are going to travel by taxi).

Else should not matter much.

If passing by, do give a shout... i stay in ahmedabad and work in mehsana

Patan

Their are step wells, the Sun Temple, the factory that makes silk sari's with natural earth colors (world famous,Indira Gandhi bought her sari's there) and the most beautiful white marble Jain temples. These are just a few things that I have visited in and around Patan.
