Day1
A1 : there are many private buses going from dwarka to somnath and also state transport buses. you can see the timetable from here : http://www.locationtracker.com/webresponse/

A2 : Its very difficult to go sasangir and come back by afternoon. its takes time to do the safari and also in the winter season sasan is little more crowdy as lots of foreigners also visiting. for more info you can contact forest department @ sasan : 02877 285541

A3 : no idea about lilavati atithi rooms

A4 : many places to see enroute somnath to dwarka like veraval, chorwad, madhavpur ghed(osho ashram), porbandar etc. so i suggest if you can afford then take a taxi so you can cover this places. all depends on your time.

Day 3:
A1 : Birla Dharmshala is a good place and reasonable too.
Contact : 0289-2234249 ( Mr. Chandubhai Dave ) Rupees 100 per room ( atttached toilet and bathroom )with reasonable facilities

A2 : you need to go to okha first to visit the byet dwarka. In order to get there from Dwarka, one might need to first get to Okha port jetty (32 km), by either rail or road and then take a ferry or small boat (Rs.5/-), 5km away.Gujarat tourism has 5 hour guided tour for places in dwarka and byet dwarka.all the information can be found at : http://www.gujarattourism.com/showpa...4&lang=English

A3 : no idea for religious reasons and things to carry for Pooja.

I have also planned to visit same places on 14-15-16 Jan from Ahmedabad, Gujarat.below is my itenarary.i have hired a private vehicle from ahmedabad.
Day1: Reach dwarka in the morning from ahmedabad. Visit all the places in dwarka and byet dwarka and night stay @ dwarka in Birla Dharmshala.
Day2 : Leave for Somnath in the morning. Enroute Porbandar, Madhavpur, Veraval, Chorwad etc.Reach somnath by evening.Night stay @ somnath.
Day3 : Go to Devaliya Lion Park to see the lions and leave for ahmedabad from there only.

Let me know if this is useful or I can help you in any other way also.

Hello all,

I with my wife and another couple are planning a round trip from Mumbai to Dwarka to Somnath to Gir nature park to Rajkot and back to Mumbai. Our Tentative Plan to travel is as follows,

I would like to leave Mumbai by evening train to Dwarka on 1st of feb 2012.

Have darshan and stay in Dwarka on 2nd of feb 2012.

leave Dwarka by road to Somnath 0n 3rd morning have Darshan and reach gir sanctuary by evening or night and have a halt

Visit Gir Sanctuary On 4th and leave for rajkot by road in the evening stay at rajkot for the night.

Visit friends and tourist spots if any in rajkot and come back to Mumbai via flight or Night train.

My queries are as following:

Is the time allocation is enough for each city?

Is our travel plan feasible?

Where can We stay at Dwarka, Gir Sanctuary & Rajkot?

What sort of cloths will we have to carry for this time of travel?

Please help me out

Your plan looks good except for Feb. 3rd. I would suggest you stay in Somnath on 3rd and then on 4th leave for Gir Sanctury and reach Rajkot by 4th night. This way, you can participate in evening aarti/sound and light show on 3rd - then morning Aarti and local sightseeing on 4th. Rent a rickshaw and they can show around everything in couple of hours.
On your way from Dwarka to Somnath - you can visit Harshad Mata Temple/Kirti Mandir - Porbandar/Madhavpur.

Dwarka - Stay at Reliance guest house, clean and budget place
Somnath - Hotel Amber - newely built, clean and close to Temple
Rajkot - Do not know much

Weather - Day time will be very pleasant but little chilly in morning and night - lite hoody should be good enough

surajit

You can catch somenath express from ahmedabad and reach veraval next day morning by 7.00 a.m. Go for the guest house run by temple committee.you can book the room in advance also. Though lot of rooms are there. From somenath to gir is 45 km. It will take 75 munites in auto. There are 3 timings one is in the morning 06.30 a.m another one 09.30 a.m. And last one 03.30 p.m. The dueration in the forest approximately 2 and half hour. But the main thing the authority allot only 30 permits against one trip. Among this 15 permit alloted for local hotel owners. And the rest alloted to general public on first come first basis. So i think you try to reach at least 3 hours before your schedule. From somenath to dwarka goverment bus is there it takes 7 hours. Private bus is there it takes 6 hours. Besides that you can hire a taxi normaly it takes 5 to 5.3 hours. Road condition from somenath to dwarka is very good. In dwarka there are lot of hotels, lodge, and dharamshala. From dwarka hire a taxi go to bet dwarka in the morning and come back by 3.00 p.m.(maximum) on your way back you can visit nageshwar temple also.

Jai Somnath,

I had done the dwarka somnath trip in the end November'2011.The route we followed : taken rajdh to Amd from Del.Reachd (Day 1) Amd in the morning and visited sabarmati ashram and Akshardham temple. Later in the night took verawal exp for somnath.(Day 2)In somnath we stayed at Lilavathi Bhawan,(best accom in the somnath). At somnath we took the bus tour organised by the trust, covering all the temples in the vicinity of somnath.Day 3 we left for Diu by taxi and returned to somnath by evening.(Day4) morning at 8.00 we left for Dwarka by pvt bus(only option as taxi is quiet costly. We reachd dwarka by 1500 hrs there we stayed at Hotel Bansi( decent hotel). In the evening we visited temple. On 5th day we went for Bheyt dwarka amd other temples by the tourist bus managed by Dwarka Muncipal committee at 0800 hrs. The bus completed the tour and reachd Dwarka at 1400 hrs.6th day we took early morning train to Amd and on the evening we took Rajd from Amd to Del.

If you are travelling with family covering Sasan Gir and other places requires time and money as the taxi is costly and much cannot be said about the local transport.

Few Imp Points:

1. Booking at Lilavathi bhawan can be done on phone and prior booking is very much needed.
2. Local sight seeing is best done in state/trust tour/buses.
3. Bus booking for Somnath to Dwk should be done in advance as there are not many buses.(timings 8.00 and 14.00.

Hi there!

At Lilavathi u can book the accom on phone and then later send the dd/chq of the desired amount to confirm the booking. The bus at somnath normaly takes 2hrs the fare is very nominal approx 50 INR pp.

There are no volvo buses,as told, between DWK and Som. The pvt bus fare is Approx Rs 200.

thanks sankat for the information.
Does it seems like the dd/chq amount is the double of actual room rent. I need 2 rooms , so the somanth website shows me the just double of room rent. So do i need to send the chq in the same manner?

I am trying to book the Reliance guest house at Dwarka. How do they book it ?

Hi! At Lilavathi they use to keep Rs 900 per room as security, which they refund on vacating. At dwarka there are plenty of hotels ranging from 600 - 2000 per night near the temple complex. The Reliance dharamshala is nice but always remain occupied.

You need to call Kokila Dhiraj Dham (Reliance Dharamshala) management at Phone No: +91-2892236750 one month prior to your stay. There are chances of getting accommodation there.
