Navratri/Dusshera - Kutch vs Ahmedabad
Well its taken me the best part of an evening to figure out how to post a thread...!
sorry to open a new conversation that might have already been answered...'newbie' I am arriving in Jaipur 19 Sept which I understand is the start of Navratri. I'm going Jaipur-Udaipur-Bhuj and will arrive in Bhuj to explore the Kutch/Banni area around the 25th Sept. I wanted to explore that area for 5/6 days and then head to Ahmedabad. My problem is that I cant find anything definitive on the www about the scale and location of Navratri/Dusshera celebrations in Kutch, all I am finding is that Ahmedabad is THE place to be. But I really dont want to miss out on Kutch. Can anyone advise on this? Basically how is it celebrated in Kutch?; or are the celebrations in Ahmedabad worth cutting my time in Kutch? Hoping to hear from you. Bless oh and any info on the festivities in Jaipur/Udaipur during first few days of Navratri would also be very welcome. thanks! |

Hi let me know, do you have any friends (Indian) coming with you, if yes then definitely you will enjoy Navaratri in Bhuj area same like Ahmedabad but if you are alone (I mean in group with Non-indian friends) then it is good to enjoy Navaratri in Ahmedabad. Bhuj is not so far from Ahmedabad and Navaratri is festival of night, so you can back to Ahmedabad for 2 days (I mean 26th Sept is 8th day of Navaratri which suppose to be favourit for everyone and you will enjoy world's biggest dance festival in maximum amplitude) and 27th is last day of Navaratri so on 30th morning you can go back to bhuj to explore Kutch and Banni.
About, Bhuj all handmade cloths for Navaratri festival (in Indian known as Chaniya-Choli, see URL http://www.vaibhaviindia.com/asp/showcase.asp?Page=2 ) either manufacturing in Bhuj-Kutch area or workers are coming from this region. You can buy this cloths in Bhuj-Kutch at good rates. Now Navaratri is playining into Clubs/Resorts but in Bhuj you can find it is playing in Big Ground (Its original one). If you are planing for Ahmedabad, let me know I will share you some good Club name where Navaratri is very popular for tourist like you. Regards Rushi |

Hi Rushi,
Thanks for the info... We dont really want to backtrack so I think we'll try out Bhuj, will deft be there on the 26th. I'm travelling with a friend (we're both female) I have a contact in Bhuj, but its a friends family so they are much older than us...hopefully we will meet more Indian friends along the way... Can you tell me more about Bhuj, the Big Ground??? what is that? Is there a central place for the festival, is it celebrated in street or more in the homes??? cheers, Siki |

Hi,
Not a problem, Bhunj is also a nice place for Navaratri. Navaratri is celebrating in streets and/or big grounds where all are gathering and playing Garba and Dandia (Indian name for Navaratri Dance). You can also enjoy, little desert of Kutch, Wild Ass wild life Sanctuary enjoy colors of Bhuj - Kutch. If you have time don't forget to visit Gir National Park (Only place of Asiatic Lions). Only <400 Asiatic Lions left which you can only find in Gir Forest. Regards Rushi |
