I am delighted. I think I have decided to go on the national highway 6 all the way from Surat to Kolkata (I might take a shortcut from Vadodara to Dhule). Today I went the national highway 8B and 8A from Rajkot to Limbdi and there were no problems at all. The road was very good and not a lot of traffic. If NH6 will be like that also, I will be very happy! Thanks for all the advices!

Hi, I think today you reached to Ahmedabad, welcome to Ahmedabad and best of luck for your journey.

Avoid night journey / Halt around State Border area (specially near MP border). NH6 is best for you and you will not get any probelm. Just beware of Truck on Surat - Dhule route.

Regards
Rushi

More info on Indore to Baroda route

I am planning to travel by car from Indore to Baroda next week. Two things that concern me at this point in time are:
1) Road condition
2) Safety

Can you please provide me some more details on this? Also how long does it take by car? I have travelled to Dhar couple of times and the road till there is decent.

Somebody mentioned dacoity and all in this thread. Is it really there? Please let me know.

TIA

Cycling in West Bengal

So, time to leave a short report. I took the Baroda, Surat, Dhulia, Nagpur, Raipur, Sambalpur road, so following the NH6 for a long time. That was no problems. The roads were all good. However, as was stated earlier in this thread, the truck traffic from Surat to Dhulia was quite intensive. A rear view mirror helped alot. The further east I moved the less traffic it was.

From Sambalpur, my first intention was to continue on the NH6 to Kolkata, but after all the reports about recent maoists activities I refused. Instead I chose to take the NH42 from Sambalpur to Angul (I am in Angul now) - Cuttack and then I will go on the NH5 to Baleshwar at least. My final destination in India is still Kolkata. The NH42 is a great road, and from what I have heard the NH5 will be good as well.

Now, I am not sure about the stage Baleshwar - Kharagpur and Kharagpur - Kolkata. I suppose it is better to arrive on NH60 to Kharagpur than NH6 but is it just a stupid risk I would take to arrive to Kharagpur on bicycle. However, I have not seen any reports from maoists activies on NH60. And could I leave Kharagpur on bicycle, towards Kolkata? Of course, I only travel day time.

Would be happy for any advices regarding the last stage of my trip in India. However, until now, it has been a great experience and I have not faced any kind of problems.

Thanks in advance,
Viktor

It was nice decision to take NH42, I think Baleshwar - Kharagpur and Kharagpur - Kolkata is good road and will not faced any problem.

Great show!
NH60 is best instead of NH5 from Baleshwar to Kharagpur.
No Naxal problems anywhere on this route.
From Kharagpur, it is a wonderful expressway to Calcutta.
