looking for hotel and sights in Surat
next week I'm planning to visit Surat for two days on my way from Delhi to Mumbai.
Can anybody help me with finding a budget-hotel and some nice places to visit? Thanks a lot! Jarich ps. I know it't not the right season to visit Surat ;-) |

Haydn,
Tsk tsk... saying that about one of the most cleanest cities of India...!!!! Though, i'd agree.. with lots of encroachments near the tracks.. from the train it does seem ghastly.... But otherwise, it's one of the most cleanest cities now... at one point of time... it was the exact opposite...

clean in terms of litter on the streets maybe. but i have never seen such bad air pollution! not even in Beijing (but that was 19yrs ago). i can only imagine the state of people's lungs...
and as i said, there must be many charming aspects to the town. |

actually, April Flower, it was Beijing 19 yrs ago but Surat at the beginning of this year! It may be ranked No.2 by someone but i stand by my descriptions of the visible air pollution.
by the way, i love your parrot! |

Yea, I don't agree w/ number 2. However, I do think it makes a huge difference what part of the city you are in. I have noticed any time I go downtown near the train station it is much worse both air and litter/poo in general. I don't generally get in the downtown area. Sorry for my misread! |
