Little Rann of Kutch in September

Hello,

I will be having a couple of days off and thought about exploring the Little Rann of Kutch. Now my question:

Is September a suitable month to do this as most of the salt plains are underwater I guess?

Which is a good place to stay (upper middle class) and to do some safaris from?

How many hours does the journey from Ahmedabad takes?

Thank you,
anouk

Hello Anouk,

Firstly, the salt plains are in the greater Rann of Kutch. No, unfortunately, September is not the right time for Kutch in general and the salt plains in particular. December is the best time but definitely not before mid October. Foreign nationals require special permissions to visit forward areas of Kutch. From Ahmedabad there are overnight trains and buses. And in your private vehicle it will take you 7 hours to reach Bhuj. Stay at hotel Prince in Bhuj.

As far as you are talking about Little Rann of Kutch. Main town/villages like Mandal,, Zainabad, Dasada and Jhinjuvada are not very far from Ahmedabad, around 100-140 km. You can also stay in Dharangadhra to visit the Wildlife Sanctuary. Cannot advice about where to stay.

Jorge

Edit.- Understand that to see the salt plain underwater should be during monsoon time. I saw a film on tv about it and was really amazing.

yes I am talking about the Little Rann. What is better, staying in Zainabad, Dasada or Dharangadhra?
I will not have the time to go all the way to Bhuj although I'd love to.
Any monsoon-Little Rann-experiences?
