Kutch in 4-5days - help required!

Hi All,

We intend to go to Kutch in February and have about 5 days, definitely want to cover White rann, bird watching - esp the flamingos, some visits to crafts people in kutch region and some key architectural wonders such as bhadreshwar, old havelis / places etc.

Request some tips on planning this itinerary, especially from user(Kutch) who seems to be an expert on this region.

How do you intend to travel? Kutch is quite a big place... There is a museum in the old Raj palace in Bhuj with a gentlemen who organises short trips and tours via auto-richshaw. Other than that you're just at the mercy of the buses unless you want to hire a private car. I found travel in Kutch quite arduous but it is definitely a place apart. Access to the tribal people via tours felt contrived and so I just ended up turning up alone and they were, after initial surprise, quite friendly and open.

As part of our 2007 trip in Gujarat we traveled by car+driver through the Kutch area.
We started from Junagadh, stayed some days in and around Bhuj and after visiting the excavation in Dholavira we ended around Patna.

we will be travelling by car from rajkot. would like to ee some of the wildlife/ local artisans and archaeologically important places.
