Kicking Bricks in Diu

Has anyone who’s travelled through Diu recently(ish) noticed if the locals still have regular football matches beside the cricket ground just outside the town walls?

When I was last there I got press ganged into joining them for a few weeks and participated in several post-work matches, which, although very enjoyable, the lack of appropriate footwear left me feeling like I’d been kicking house bricks, non stop, for about four years.

My pampered feet aren’t quite up to the job of being nakedly subjected to such eye-watering abuse and I was in constant fear of a snapped toe or two wrecking my holiday jaunts; a feeling somewhat compounded by my prize twat status that meant I would still run around like a man possessed, barefoot, courting inevitable injury (and instant local ridicule every time I trod on a pebble).

As such I am contemplating bringing trainers next time I'm there, but wouldn’t want to carry them all the way to discover that they’re not needed (I’m not really one for wearing trainers, so they wouldn’t be of any other use to me other than a barrier for striking balls or maybe drinking out of).

Kindest regards to all.

DB
