Just Arrived in Ahmedabad
Hello! This site has been great for so much information - most questions popped up easily and I enjoyed everyone's on-line personalities and sense of humor.
Anyway, I have finally gotten here! Didn't realize how stressful moving out of the country could be. Would love to touch base with anyone else out there with other useful information about this city. I also read there is a group of expats that get together. That would be something I'd really be interested in - please let me know! Thanks so much. |

Thanks Jay!
Still trying to get oriented, and spent today looking for apartments. We also may be looking for a cook - how do you go about that? Also, any recommendations for restaurants? Can you tell what's on my mind right now!!? I would love to get together with others that are here. Would you say there is a large expat community here? I'll keep in touch - thank you so much, A |

You're welcome...
I guess, it would take some time to settle down... What areas are you looking at for residing...?? In the western part of A'bad - Thaltej, DrivIn, Satellite etc... This company has quite a few properties ( i have no relation to them ). Best would of course be references frm your immediate associates.. As for the cook, just what kind would you want... majority that you would be getting is the local food cooking variety.. And as for what's going in your mind.!! it'd be too bizzare to even think of that...!!! LOLAll the best, and as i've said earlier too, let us know if you need any assistance.... |

Hello again,
We actually found a great bungalo in Sun City. It is quiet there, less pollution, and has a great garden. It also is quite a bit less expensive, which is good, as we are limited by budget. We plan on adopting a stray dog to keep me company during the day, and this has a gated yard. As far as a cook, I would enjoy the local food and would love to learn to make some dishes myself eventually. I think maybe just for dinners right now. Do you have any recommendations? Also, do you know of any used furniture stores? We're finding that the amount of furniture we need is going to be too expensive for our budget, to buy all new. Thank you! |

Sun City is a nice area... will ask somebody that side if they have any idea about the cook part.. there's a couple of nice restaurants nearby to your place.. there's Maadhurya (on the road from Bopal to Isckon circle), there's Honest on Bopal Crossroads, there's Havmor also bang opposite to Honest... the last 2 are more of regular restaurants... but Maadhurya is bherry bherry naaish
For the furniture, i dont have any idea whatsoever about used furniture shops... but can recommend a few roadside places from where you can pick up used furniture... On IIM Cross roads, going towards Vastrapur Lake, on your left you'll spot a couple of sofa's, the people there are selling them.. then on Sunday morning, underneath the Ellisbridge, there is a market which is setup ( more like a flea market) where you'll find a lot of oddities up for sale.. it's also called the Gurjari bazaar... However, most of the stuff you'll find at these places would be pretty old... so do factor that.... |

Thanks again for your info!
I'm excited, we will be moving next wk-end. Please let me know if you hear anything about a cook. We probably would only want part time. Any idea what is standard/fair salary? Regards, A |
