I stayed at the Relief hotel last January. Very nice place clean and cheap, friendly manager. Good location too, right off the main road heading up to the fort.
The gujarat tourism hotels are pretty good value for money and good locations. If you r willing to put up a little with not so well maintained rooms and run down government lodgings and slow service etc. The rooms being built late 70's and early 80's are large and spacious. I like their properties and usually always do try to stay there even if the paint is peeling and so on.They are usually very clean also..a major plus point. I have stayed at the Girnar nearly 20 years back..in its hey days even then the service was pathetic. So its not surprising that they are not organised enough to take your january booking.
I will find the adresse of a nicer place in junagadh and send it..as soon as i find it.
However Junagadh has a fair number of hotels , including the popular Relief hotel. And accomodation fairly asy to find. So you could always check ut the hotels before you decided to check in. Junagadh is a small place and not to difficult to recce.

The National
I stayed in the National in October, pretty basic, nice enough though.
Right on a major intersection so it can be a bit noisy!!!

Junagardh was a most interesting town. I found Hotel Relief a good place in January this year and I imagine that their renovations and extensions will be finished now. Nice breakfast which you can order the night before and don't miss the biryani!
Opposite the hotel are some interesting ruins left when the local Nawab decamped to Pakistan upon partition - they can be accessed easily - and a little further along the main road to the north west (parallel to the railway line) is an interesting 19th Century gate leading in to some beautiful Indo-Saracenic buildings including a mausoleum. A restaurant that offers extremely good Gujarati thalis is 100m or so south of this gateway.
After you have burnt up a few kilojoules going up to Girnar Hill that thali will taste really good. You will never forget your first Guj thali!!

Junagadh Town
junagadh's places to stay
hello
i have visited junagadh just 2 weeks ago and can say that junagadh cannot boast any good options barring one - new hotel with name like Sharma Palace (I will check the name and inform you later because somewhere in my luggage i kept a card of this hotel). Anyway, if I'll have no time you can find it easily - go to central square (from railway station or bus station it is just 20Rs ride on auto) near National hotel and go in opposite direction. The first big shopping complex with the same name has hotel on upper 2 floors (there is a lift). Hotel is nice enough, with 2 kind of new rooms - without AC 400RS plus tax and 600Rs plus tax - I paid around 670 Rs per night. The views over town and dry moat are just outstanding (request a room with a view).
Other hotels in Junagadh are bad lot, especially 2-3 places including National Hotel (some female travellers reported harassment from staff) and smelly, their musty old rooms are not match to the mentioned hotel and poor value for money.Relief hotel was clean enough but had no rooms with TV or AC.
