Is August a good time to visit Gujrat?
Reading about Gujrat and that the area doesn't have many tourists I begun thinking about going there during august. How's the weather, is it too hot, too rainy or too perfekt? And if the latter, which areas would you visit?
Thanks alot Christoffer |

Christofer,
for someone from sweden , used to much colder weather, the ideal gujrat (and rajasthan) will be in dec-jan. August may be somewhat warm although i don;t think you'll have a problem with the heat in gujrat then.(28-3? degrees celcius.) Where you want to vsit in gujrat depends on what you want to do. you shop at surat and ahmedabad(and vadodara) visit the beaches of dwarka, bet dwarka ahmedpur and mandwi, (you can also do diu if you have the time) and visit the hill stations (palitana and Mount abu, which both have jain temples and ruins. The other hill station is saputara, which is in southern gujrat and is a ...um...hill station....yeah...) ..you can go to anand and see the milk cooperative, or go to gir and see the lion(there one or two there, I think...)...you may even go to the rann of kutchh (if you like desertscapes) and see the wild ass. My favorite time of the year in gujrat is in september-october when they have the garba , and unlike bombay garbas, which are somewhat commercialized and citified, these are like village ceelebrations of great joy and color. Saurashtra is a good place to visit during the garba. |

Crlin,
I've been one month in Gujarat last Feb/March. The weather i February was already hot but passable (I live in a hot region of Spain). I've really enjoyed my time there. I can suggest: Bhuj in the Kutch area. Even if the earthquake in 2002 caused a lot of damages there, is still a different city. To visit the Rann of Kutch is a must. Mandvi and Mundra in the Arabian sea coast are really impressive and must highly recommend the visit. Tourist are a "rara avis" in all this places. In the Saurashtra region I should recommend Dwarka, Junagadh (an ascent to Girnar Hill), take a toy train to Diu (Delwada is the station ) and spend few days there, beautiful beaches (specially Nagoa beach). From Diu go by bus to Palitana and jump to Sathrunjaya hill. From there to Ahmedabad where you'll find a lot of muslim monuments, personally I don't like very much the city. North of Ahmedabad visit Patan and the sun temple of Modhera. I liked very much the ambiance and the people in Patan and the sun temple in Modhera as well as the Rani Stepwell in the outskirts of Patan. I've also been in Baroda to visit Champaner, since last 2004 World Heritage Site and Dabhoi an old walled small city very interesting with lots of character. All the luck Jorge |

Hi chrlin,
I will second cdrake, Sep-Oct will be better than the hot & humid August. And the Garbas in rural Gujrat is a occasion to be witnessed. Anindya
