Hyderabad to Gujarat
I’m coming to India soon and as part of my trip am catching a train from Hyderabad to Gujurat (RAJKOT EXPRESS) …
Once in Gujurat I want to go straight to Diu to spend some time at the beach . Please could someone recommend the best train station to get off the Rajkot Express, in order to get to Diu. I see it stops in AHMEDABAD , but also goes to RAJKOT - Im thinking that it might be better to go all the way to Rajkot - what do you think ? Also do I have to wait till I get to Hyderabad to book my ticket for this train - could I book it when I arrive in Chennai … Thanks Last edited by machadinha : Mar 3rd, 2008 at 02:25. This is going to sound like a strange option, but this is maybe what I'd consider doing if I were wanting to get from Hyderabad to Diu.
The Rajkot Express departs Secunderabad at 14:50, the journey's going to start feeling like a long, long journey when you wake up the next morning and realise that your train doesn't get to Rajkot till 20:00 (if it's on time). So I'm guessing that by the time you reach Vapi at 08:12 (with another 12 hours left on the train) you'll be wishing there's been an alternative. Why not get off at Vapi, have a day in Daman (not that I've heard great things about the place), find the coast and relax for a while. Train 2971 departs Vapi daily at 00:07 (careful with the date when booking), and gets to Sihor Jn at 10:47, Sihor is the closest train station to Palitana (about 20 kms), Palitana is a popular tourist destination, and is less than 4 hours by bus/taxi from Diu. Just a thought.... Both trains also call at Valsad and Surat, or Mumbai (getting off the Rajkot Express at Kalyan Jn, and boarding the Sihor train at Bandra Terminus). You're going to have to take a break somewhere, the train to Veraval departs Ahmedabad at 21:45 and Rajkot at 02:10, and the daytime train departs Ahmedabad at 08:15 and Rajkot at 14:10. Whatever option you choose, book at the earliest opportunity.

Unless you are very particular about train travel.. i'd recommend booking a flight ticket to Ahmedabad and then travel to diu. You save on a lot of time and better still are fresh enough to actually enjoy your visit.
you can visit any online booking website and find out schedules...
