Hi, 15 days is way too much for doing only Gujarat. Would recomend you to cover Rajasthan as well if you can spare that time. As for Gujarat, the major places of religious interest are 1. Dwarka Temple (and sorrounding spots) 2. Somnath Temple 3. Palitana Jain Temples 4. Ambaji You can find some historical spots at 1. Junagadh 2. Ahmedabad 3. Lothal 4. Adalaj Wav (not sure of the spelling) Apart from these Gir and Diu are a must-see if you visit Gujarat for the first time. I would suggest that instead of running around in trains and buses you arrange a car for roundtrip to and fro Ahmedabad. You can do a circular trip. Start from Ahmedabad ..fo to dwarka which is in north Gujarat..then go to south gujarat (diu and gir)..then come back to Ahmedabad. In this way you would cover most of the important lpaces effortlessly. A non-ac indica will cost you 6Rs./KM and total circuit will be max. 1500 Kms hence costing 9000 Rs. approx. This may be slightly more than bus/train but will be worth it, especially if you also cover southern Rajastan like Udaipur, chittorgarh, jodhpur, abu etc also in the same car (of course that will add to the Kms.) As for Gujarat suggested iternary/route considering your time would be Day1 - Ahmedabad Local incl. Akshardham Day 2 - Modhera Sun Temple ex-ahmedabad Day 3 - Nalsarovar and Lothal ex-ahmedabad Day 4 - Ahmedabad to Dwarka covering Rajkot and Jamnagar enroute Day 5 - Dwarka incl. betdwarka Day 6 - Dwarka to Junagarh covering Porbandar and Chorward enroute Day 7 - Junagarh local fort and junaagarh to Gir Day 8 - Safari at Gir park (morning and evening) Day 9 - Gir to Somnath and somnath local incl balka teerth Day 10 Somnath to Diu and Diu local Day 11 - Diu local and Diu to Palitana Day 12 - Palitana Temples and Palitana to Ahmedabad You can check the website of Gujarat tourism and amp of Gujarat to get more idea about the route and the places |

In 2007 we hired a car for a ten-day trip through Gujarat, starting in Vadodara and ending in Udaipur.
We were already some days in Vadodara and visited Champaner from there. Our itinerary was Vadodara - Jambughoda - Bhavnagar - Junagadh - Bhuj - (en route to Dholavira) - Meshana and Patan - Udaipur For more details see the March episode of our travel journal Mumbai-Delhi |

Thanks for your reply. I made my plan according to your suggestion and reading other article in this forum.
day 1 and last day is excluded to take train from/to Delhi So in balance 13 days I want to cover below mention places. Ahmdabad, Jamnagar , Dwarka ji, Beyt Dwarka, nageshwer temple, Porbandar, Junagarh, Gir national park, Somnath temple, Diu, bhuj, kutch ka ran, Meshana and patan and udaipur.. I will take night train from udaipur after visiting Shri Nathdwara. As suggested I will take Taxi from Ahmdabad for round trip. Now please suggest me itinerary in detail with night halt and accomodation option. I want to reach every destination max by 5 in the evening. Thanks in advance Ak |

If you want to do Udaipur, spare two days and you may cut any two days out of Ahmedabad local, modhera or Nalsarovar (Day 1,2,3) as these are likely to be least interesting part of the tour. In all the journeys mentioned here all are for day only so u dont require to travel after night. On last day of Gujarat, you comeback to ahmedabad and take rest, then early morning next day start for udaipur (5hrs). NExt day 2-3 pm you can start back for ahmedabad. However since you are going to delhi, a good idea would be to leave the taxi at udaipur and take mewar express to delhi, which will cut ur train journey time by approx 5 hrs as compared to ahmedabad to delhi Day1 - Ahmedabad Local incl. Akshardham Day 2 - Modhera Sun Temple ex-ahmedabad Day 3 - Nalsarovar and Lothal ex-ahmedabad Day 4 - Ahmedabad to Dwarka covering Rajkot and Jamnagar enroute Day 5 - Dwarka incl. betdwarka Day 6 - Dwarka to Junagarh covering Porbandar and Chorward enroute Day 7 - Junagarh local fort and junaagarh to Gir Day 8 - Safari at Gir park (morning and evening) Day 9 - Gir to Somnath and somnath local incl balka teerth Day 10 Somnath to Diu and Diu local Day 11 - Diu local and Diu to Palitana Day 12 - Palitana Temples and Palitana to Ahmedabad |

AK..You do not need to stay near Bet Dwarka..Just stay in Dwarka. Just keep in mind that Bet Dwarka temple only opens in early morning hours(up to 11am) and then after 4:00pm in the evening so plan your journey accordingly. We were there at 2:00pm and missed the darshan as I could not wait until 4pm. You'll need to take a ferry boat to go to Bet Dwarka.
You can probaly plan your day such as...Dwarkadhish Temple, Shakti Pith, Rukmani Temple and local site seeing. Try to get to Nageshwar around 2:00pm..spend an hour and then take a ferry to Bet Dwarka. About Gujarat itinery...I would not spent three days near Ahmedabad. 2 days are good enough..include Dholavira for extra day. As bonded suggested..do train journey when possible and at night..which will give you plenty of time to visit many places. Last edited by sb_amd_us : Sep 9th, 2009 at 09:30. |
