Gujarat
Hi there - as someone who's never been to India before I apologise upfront if any questions sound ignorant. I'm planning on heading over in January/February next year for a month or so and would love to include Gujarat in my trip. Any suggestions of must-sees in the area?
Many thanks.

first time India...
Hi, what are your ideas about Gujarat? Gandhi, earthquake, prohibition??

Gujarat
There are plenty of interesting places to visit in Gujarat and you are going at a good time of year. Should be sunshine all the way and not too hot.
Mandvi just south of Bhuj on the coast is a very pleasant small town. Bhuj itself was a good place to stay but the earthquake severely damaged it. In the main part of Gujarat i can recommend Palitana and Girnar (both are complexes of Jain temples on mountain tops) and Gir Forest National Park where you may be able to see the last of the Asian lions.
The island of Diu is worth a few days stay and for a hill station and some beautiful temples there is Mount Abu. Quite a lot really!
If you would like any more info, just ask.
Good travelling

Mandvi
Which reminds me.
Has anyone been to Mandvi recently? I have heard that it escaped most of the full force of the earthquake. Did anyone stay at the converted private cardiac hospital just on the Mandvi side of the bridge and was Vinod Bhatt and the family still running it?
