Getting to Songhad from Mumbai

Hi ppl,

I would have to travel regularly to Songhad, Gujarat from Mumbai atleast once a week or maybe once a fortnight.

The only way i can see right now is by car, travel to Surat (5hr approx) and onwards to Songhad (2hrs) from Surat. A total travel time of 7 hours. Hence i would have to spend one night either while going or coming back to cut the total journey. I would be spending approx 5-7 hours there only and then will need to return back to Mumbai.

Is there any other way to reach there either by Train or Bus from Mumbai, i do not mind a over night journey, atleast it would not tire me driving and also be much lighter on the wallet.

Thanks

Amar

Do you like Sleeper class on slow passenger trains?

Train 241 is the Mumbai Central - Ahmedabad passenger, it has a slip coach that's taken from the train at Surat and attached to another train to Ukai Songadh station, to book the train, use train number 241B

241B, Mumbai Central 22:40, Ukai Songadh 09:55 (44 stops later )

The carriage will be at Surat station from 06:05, till 07:15.

Coming back, the train has a different number.

176, Ukai Songadh 16:33, Mumbai Central 04:45

It would be much faster to use the ADI Shatabdi (Mumbai Central 06.25, Surat 09.49) (Surat 18.02, Mumbai Central 21.35) and a bus between Surat and Songadh (80kms).

Thanks for the quick reply Steven... guess the train would be a real long journey and will not have more than 5.5 hours at Songhad.

This will frankly not help me as i will need atleast 7 hours at Songhad. Alternatively the ideal way would be a night halt at Surat one way atleast.

Also one more thing going by Road on NH 8 can i take some bypass either at Valsad or Gandevi and head directly Songhad via Bansda. Or using the NH6 from Surat would be a better option. Any clue on the roads?
