Dwaraka-Somnath trip : Places to see enroute?
Dwaraka-Somnath trip : Places to see enroute?
Hi all,
I am planning a three day trip to Dwaraka - Somnath trip as follows:
Day 1 - Leave Ahmedabad early morning by car.Reach Dwaraka by 2 pm..proceed directly to Beyt Dwaraka..visit Nageshwar enroute..visit beyt dwaraka temple..and back to Dwaraka..Visit Dwarakadeesh temple for aarati..stay at Dwaraka.
Day 2 - After morning darshan at temple..proceed for Somnath..visit Porbandhar Gandhiji's house enroute..Reach Somnath by late afternoon..darshan and stay at Somnath.
Day 3 - After morning darshan at Somnath..Visit the temple where Lord krishna left his mortal body forgot the name)and then back to Ahmedabad via Junagadh..Rajkot..
So my question is - In addition to the above itinary are there any places to be seen enroute? Like how is Rajkot , Jamnagar , Junagadh , Veraval..are there anything to be seen here..or for that matter..any other places in Saurashtra which is worth seeing ..and falling enroute without too much of a detour.
By places which i wish to see..I mean places which have historical, spiritual, religious or just an offbeat tourist place

Hi,
Your plan is good but i would like to add few more places and route to make your trip more exciting.
=> Check temple website and timing of temple as dwarka temple will not open for whole day (there are various timings of aartis)
Day 2 - After morning darshan at temple..proceed for Somnath..visit Porbandhar Gandhiji's house enroute..Reach Somnath by late afternoon..darshan and stay at Somnath.=> In porbandar there is "tara mandir" where they are demonstrating sky and start. I am not sure whether you like to visit it or not.
=> enroute to Dwarka to porbandar there is one famous place called harshad. it is around 40Km from dwarka. there is a temple of harsidhhi mataji having historical importance.
=> enroutte to porbandar to somnath, there one place called madhavpur...you will find censorious seashore just beside the road.
Day 3 - After morning darshan at Somnath..Visit the temple where Lord krishna left his mortal body forgot the name)and then back to Ahmedabad via Junagadh..Rajkot.. => the place where krishna left his mortal body is know as bhalka tirth.
=> if you want to visit Junagadh, i recommend to stay atleast 2 days as there are various places to visit (sasan gir lion century, girnal (10,000 steps), uparkot fort, and zoo)
So my question is - In addition to the above itinary are there any places to be seen enroute? Like how is Rajkot , Jamnagar , Junagadh , Veraval..are there anything to be seen here..or for that matter..any other places in Saurashtra which is worth seeing ..and falling enroute without too much of a detour.=> here is the brief on rout...
Ahmedabad => rajkot => jamanagar => dwarka => nageshwar => bet => return dwarka => harshad (thorugh bhogat) => porbandar => madhavpur => somnath => veraval => sasan gir (talala) => junagadh => rajkot => ahmedabad
let me know if you need further information or stuck at any place in saurastra.
thanks
Jignesh

Thanks Jignesh for the thoughtful response.. But I have cancelled the trip for now due to the unsuitable climate (was planning the trip from 13 - 15 Nov)... As I had already planned the trip for my folks I am going to Udaipur..shrinathji instead.
Guess Shri Dwarakadeesh will call me at the right time!

Advice required
Iam planning to visit some historical places in Gujarat, saurashtra and Rajastan for 6-8 days with my family. Iam staying in Ahmedabad n now. Can any one guide me on starting and ending points so that I will not miss all good places.
Thanks
Thanks
there is an awful lot of places to be seen in gujarat and rajasthan for which 6 to 8 days may fall short. so to narrow down the search, info is required on your preferences like - religious, tourist, wildlife etc etc...
but on a safe bet the following can be included for 6 to 8b days-
start with the saurashtra circuit - it includes dwarka temple, jamnagar aqua park, porbandar, somnath temple, diu beach, junagarh, gir(gir can be costly - can be avoided. junagarh has many jain and buddhist places around). the starting and ending point for this circuit is ahmedabad and it should take around 4 full days
after finishing the saurashtra circuit u can opt for north gujarat and south rajasthan circuit - it includes mt. abu, udaipur, srinathji etc. this should take another 4 days from ahmedabad.
south gujarat too has some fine places but it is another trip, another day unless you have better plans!

No, madhavpur is not sudama's village , it is porbandar where you will find sudama temple.Madhavpur is the small city where you will find wonderful beach. And harshad mata is the place where you will find temple of goddess harsad mataji.
you can also visit chorwad beach (holiday camp) but i will not recommend it as chorwad beach is dangerous. better you go diu for that.
HI ,
I am also planning a trip to Gujarat, and i was wondering if spending 2 days in Ahmedabad and 2 days in each Junagadh and Dwarka enough.
I had originally planned for 3 days in Ahmedabad, of which on one day i thought of going to modhera sun temple/lothal/nalsarovar .
which of these are good enough, or can i manage all three on same day?
Secondly, is spending two days in dwarka wise? I thought there were a lot of temples and local city is also nice.

I have recently been to Somnath and Dwarka.
Day -1 Your Day 1 planning is perfect. But from Dwarka to Bet dwarka it takes around 2 hrs. Enroute visit Rukmini Temple, Gopi Talab and Nageshwar Temple.
Day-2 In dwarka, do also visit Gomtighat. On way to Somnath do visit Mul dwarka. ( one of the 3 Lord Krishna's Temples). If time and energy permits vist Harshad mata temple. Its on hilltop and in summer heat might be challenging). It will take 4-5 hrs from Dwarka to Somnath. If u want to visit Porbandar, then keep 1:30 hr for it.
In evening once you reach Somnath, you can go for darshan and visit more places around Somnath Temple. You have to hire an auto.
Day 3 - If time permits visit Diu. Its an amazing place. Just 2 hrs from Somnath.
