Bus from Veraval to Diu takes 3 hours, or else take a train to Delwada, 8 km from Diu.

I don't know, except I went Diu-Delhi over Ahmedabad (and was ill and don't remember the details) by some combination of buses and trains. Train A'bad-Delhi, of course. The whole thing took no more than a day I believe. Anyway the above reply looks fine to me.

Is Delwada the bridgehead town there? In any case to get to Diu you'll end up in small town nearby on the mainland, you can grab a cab from there (checking: no, the name of this place is Una). Buses even maybe in the daytime; at night, those cab wallahs will (or did at the time) demand ridiculous prices (because there's no competition and they know you're supposed to be desperate and can ask you anything they like), better to sleep in (the boring) town and head to Diu in the morning.

To look for multi-train routes yourself: http://www.indiagroove.com/ . That site like most sites goes down sometimes, if so, just try again later. Verify results with the official one just to be sure, at http://www.indianrailways.gov.in/ .

It is in between Una and Ghogla.
