Never been to Gujarat. I have had Gujarati Thalis at Status in Nariman Point, Samrat in Churchgate and Golden Star Thali in Charni Road.

At a thali restaurant in Ahmedabad - I think its name was Toran, dont even remember where it was (my memory from when I was 10 is all faded).. this was in early 90s, dont know now.
All I remember is that it was close to the river (sabarmati) and was like 30-45 minutes drive from Navrangpura/University area.
It was very simple, not much fancy decor or anything - just one purpose - provide roof, table and chair for the people who have come to enjoy the yummy Gujarati thali - and ofcourse provide the yummy thali and service. There used to be 30-60 minute wait on weekends.

There are some thalis in Bombay which are pretty good (Rajdhani, Panchvati, Samrat... havent tried Golden star), but none can ever replace Toran from my heart

At the time, in Bhuj and in Junagadh I think (for Gujarati thalis, not necessarily other dishes). We're talking 1996 or so though, and I wouldn't know those places' names (could try and have a look later, if I think of it).

Good chance those places are still there; just ask around in either town & you'll be sure to be sent there (I think there were a couple of renowned ones in either. And there'll probably be in many Gujarati towns, indeed.

Mumbai among many another place is supposed to have a sizable Gujarati community yes, so good chances there.)

I have had the best at mt.abu, don't really remember name of the place but it was a popular one. Thali a gopi restaurant in ahmedabad was also a nice one- the one near ellisbridge.
And how can i forget the ones i have at home everyday though they aren't so elaborate.

A very good Gujju Thali I've had is at "Adhaar" in Iscon Complex, CG Road Ahmedabad. About Rs.250. I don't like "Goardhan Tal" in Ahmedabd which is very popular.

What I like more is the Khatiyavad version from Saurashtra. In small authentic Khatiyavad restuarants, you will have to order each dish. Spicier and tastier :-)

... So looking at my old guidebook and its notes, these would seem to (possibly) have been, in Junagadh: (any choice of, I don't remember) Swati Restaurant, near Jai Shree Cinema, 1st floor; Santoor Restaurant, M.G. Road, 1st Floor; Geeta Lodge, near railway station ("for Gujarati thali," and as provided by our hotel). In Bhuj, it would appear we may have liked the Green Hotel, nearby the vegetable market; and (certainly!) the Hotel Annapurna, "outside the northern gate of the old town ... for a taste of Kutch food," according to Lonely Planet 1993 (I think it was actually just inside, not outside, of it, and not where they put it on their map, but by their "Truck Park Mosque & Pigeon Tower" a little to the east instead). Remains to be seen if those survived the 2001 earthquake of course, or if any of them are otherwise still operating and/or as good.

Gujaraties are food lover and usually prefer Gujarati food like I am... , And hence you will get Gujarati Food (Thali Style) across the glob.

Mumbai:
Jain Sabkuch (Malad West)
Chokhi Thani (Thane, costly but worth to eat Rajasthani+Gujarati)
Kansar (Fountain Hotel, NH-8 Junction, Godbander Road. I love food and hospitality)
like mentione by bonded, lot of other places in South Mumbai.

Pune:
Shabari

Bangalore:
Sukh Sagar (MG road)
Rajdhani (in A Mall, forget its name)

Pondichery (Yes Pondichery):
Dont remember the name, but at main beach in front of church a Gujarati family is leaving there and preparin Gujarati Food

Ahmedabad
Adhaar (CG Road)
Goardhan Thal (SG Highway)
Pakvan (SG highway)
Sasuma (Paldi)
Vishala (my favourite, Vasana Toll Naka)
You can also find a a traditional and delicious food and Dhaba on highways in Gujarat.

Gujarati is a food type which you can easily get it every where, irrespective of region. (Just search far "Gujarati Thali" in main market area and you will definitely get one.)

Rushi

Hotel Express on RC Dutt Road is a good place for Thali in Baroda. Also offers a choice between Gujarati & Punjabi Kadi. Price is around Rs.150, I think.

This is very good way of furnishing the details. May be the member is well travelled person. It seems south Indian food and Gujarati food have won the hearts of many including Punjabi food.
