Has anyone been to Diu or the Ran of Kulch area lately? Is Diu being rebuilt after the earthquake? Have they managed to save the palace?

Colin, my wife Caroline, and I were there just over a year ago. The old part of the city had suffered the worst earthquake damage and there were a lot of empty spaces where the rubble had been cleared.

We stayed in a hotel next to the Aina Mahal and could see the damage done to it from our hotel window. Restoration work was going on and much of the palace on the inner side of the city wall was covered with wooden scaffolding. I don't think it will ever be quite the same again.

The city is generally functioning as normal but there are still years of reconstruction work ahead.

suzanne on this forum was heading there about a week ago so she may be able to give you more up to date info.

Alan, I think you are talking about Bhuj, the OP is asking about Diu which was not affected by the earthquake at all as far as I could see.

Colin, the poster said Diu but I think they meant Bhuj as there is no palace in Diu and the earthquake didn't affect Diu at all.

Am I right, thestens?

Yes ,sorry, it was Bhuj. I haven't been there but read about it in a book called "Balham to Bollywood" which is about the making of an Indian film about a cricket match. Bhuj and the surrounding area sounded brilliant, so I was just interesyed to find out how it was coping after the earthquake. Thanks for the info.

The film was "Lagaan" and part of the setting was the Vijay Vilas palace near Mandvi about 50 K's south of Bhuj.

The earthquake had very little effect on Mandvi and I don't think the palace was damaged. I've posted a few times on Mandvi - just use the search engine on here.
