Any boat transport in Gujarat?

I have 2-3 days to spend in Gujarat after Mumbai in a fortnight's time. The places that I am keen to visit are Palitana and Junagadh. Looking at Gujarat's map, to get to these places from Mumbai will take me about 20+ hours by train. However it seems like part of the long journey is due to having to "circumvent" the peninsula. Are there are boat transport that cross the gulf and hence, faster? Thanks.

there used to be a ferry service between surat and bhavnagar a few years back but somehow i have a vague notion that it was discontinued. to the best of my knowledge, no commercial service exists directly between mumbai and saurashtra. in any case, i dont think it will be faster than the train.

i still feel that a train journey is not all that bad. it takes roughly 15 hours and not 20. you could also take an overnight train to ahmedabad, see ahmedabad for a day and take another overnight train to junagadh.

Hi Block306,

I've been traveling in Gujarat for a month last Feb/March. If you only have 2 or 3 days better look for another option, may be Nasik (you will enjoy the ambiance), or even Aurangabad.

Junagadh is far away from everywhere, I went there by sleeper bus from Bhuj. Palitana is 250 km from Ahmedabad, that means not less than 6 hours. From Palitana to Junagadh is around 300 km and I don't know if you have direct train to/from Bhavnagar.

Do not try to do the two climbs: Girnar Hill and Shatrunjayad Hill. probably is too much.
