Though Gujarat state is declared prohibition area, hotels are given permits to sell liquor to permit holders. they have permit room to consume within the hotel premises. and also permit holders can carry home and consume. But in public places no consumption is allowed. and there are no public sales of liquor no shops selling liquor

I am told that an excellent parallel system is in place. You dial a number place your order and it is delivered.
Other wise the guy at the front desk of your hotel will give you the direction.

First thing, even if you are holding permit, and if the hotel guys play mischief, you may land in trouble with poice . As the alcohol is prohibited in gujarat. and hence be careful not to invite troubles at the cost of peace of mind. You may loose the pleasure and also some bucks to sort out matter legally. Hence reconsider your idea that "sounds straight forward enough, i assume there are time limits? so couldnt order a cold bear after a late meal?"

Gujarat is dry

Yes , gujarat is dry what you think is right. but there is dry land, short of water, rain, irrigation.
your idea is otherwise but you need to look to the fact that rich people or persons with bucks get bucketful and have no dryness round the year.

So it is just the matter of pleasing the right person at right place and at right time.

You have to go personally yourself to Hotel Vishal in Jamnagar to purchase alcohol, but you need liquor permit. if anyone else know other hotels that supply alcohol let us know.

Been to Jamnagar about 8 times - always stay at the president - be careful about letting it be known that you are taking alcohol into the hotel - because they do not allow it. Do not leave it on view in the hotel room - put it in one of the wardrobes or drawers out of the way
