Good luck getting in. The area has attracted a lot of international press during the last decade, including a writer and photographer from the Baltimore Sun who won a Pulitzer prize for their work there. Nearly every major photojournalist has spent some time in Alang, and there are a few documentaries about shipbreaking. With all the scrutiny, which was affecting buisness, the shipbreaking companies decided to seal themselves off from visitors. I doubt you'll make much headway, but you can always try.

alang permissions...

permissions are pretty much impossible to get...as per what Merchant mentions.
I had a senior French guest with all sorts of connections trying to get permissions and he had to go all the way to Gandhinagar..and then he finally gave up after a week.
Its been like this since the last 6 years or so. However there are ways to slip in. But since its illegal to be taking pictures at port areas in India..well u r on your own then. Remember the british plane spotters in Greece!?

But the approach to the actual ship yard is interesting and you can actually take snaps from a distance ..Make friends with some locals and they'll take u in maybe...

To get to Alang which is about 50 km from Bhavnagar, is via Trapej, a small village on the hyway whwere u turn off towards alang 10 km down the road.
