There is a specific thread, I think it is called Wait List will I get it, or something along that line. Post the information there. Steven, the train guy is awsome and will be able to advise you better.
As for Ahmedabad, I wanted to suggest that you should go one evening and hang out by the law garden. There are lots of handicrafts you can buy at reasonable prices there and some good street snack food too. Good for passing some time. I am not much of a temple person so there is only one temple that I saw that I was really impressed with. I am sure someone else will be able to tell you the name of it. It is located opposite the Crossword bookstore (near Big Bazaar and McDoalds). There were many beautiful paintings on the walls and ceiling of that temple. Also there is a very famous mosque there called Sidi Sayed Ni Jali. This is generally listed as a must see place. Not spectacular but worth a look. Gandhi Ashram is also worth going to. If you have lots of extra time to take an extra excursion then check out Rani ni vav (you can google this for info) its 134Km NW from Ahmedabad. |

You could cover patan, modhera and vohrawads(at siddhpur) in a day trip.
Also the temples at palitana are just unmissable.Start in the afternoon, you'll reach palitana late in the evening, climb up to see the temples early the next morning, have a fabulous lunch at the jain dharamsalas and return back.Believe me palitana is just heaven- only 5 hrs from ahmedabad. |

We did the temple tour of Gujarat 4 yrs ago. This is what I would suggest:
12/21....Shower etc..Lunch..Visit Hathisingh Jain Temple(Mavellous Carving)/Ratan Pole for some shopping/Evening at Kankaria Lake...night train to Dwarka 12/22....Dwarkdhish Temple/Rukmani Temple/Nageshwar/Bet Dwarka. Evening bus to Somnath(Hotel Shivam is good economical option and walking distance from Temple) 12/23....Morning Aarti at Temple/somnath beach/Triveni Sangam/Bhalka Tirth..withih 10/15 minutes drive from temple/evening Laser Show and night in Somnath 12/24 bus to Junagadh about three hours....visit Uperkot/Girnar Taleti/Bhavnath Temple....night stay in Junagadh 12/25 Bus to Ahmedabad in time for your train to Delhi |

If you are interested in dwarka, you could take a night bus(i don't know any but there might be many good ones) and then stay in dwarka for a day and come back the next day. Similarily you can go to somnath too but i would recommend palitana.
