Question Ahmedabad

Not the First Class Ladies' Waiting Room again! I have slept at the Ahmedabad station no fewer than a dozen times -- but this time I'm going to get out of the station and go into town for a few days (that Calico Museum sounds interesting).

So, who knows a clean and not-very-expensive hotel in Ahmedabad? And, anyone who has spent some time there -- where's the best bazaar for fabric and "collectibles"? What did you find wonderful about the city? And what did you dislike there?

I've got several months before I leave, and all suggestions will be considered.

I think that finding a 'clean' AND cheap hotel in Ahmedabad must be 'AGAINST all odds'. Still theres one i have stayed at PALDI area its called Hotel NEEL TOP. And some of their rooms are clean enough. The prices range from 350 rs to 750 or so for AC. Another resonably decent place i stayed at was hotel 'sweet dreams' very close to the well known Teen Darwaza area. This again is in the area where all those budget hotels listed in LP are. Even the hotel called A-ONE hotel. This ones a pigsty, but i guess it meets LP standards! The prices were around Rs. 250 onwards. Both hotels had a 24 hour check out facility so that help. The Teen darwaza is a great collectibles and everything elso that u want shopping area of Ahmedabad.

Indiawise, thanks for the info. I usually carry a collection of longyis to use as sheets, towels, or whatever use I might have for some clean cloth!

It seems that travellers don't get to Ahmedabad, which is one good reason I want to go there.

I agree, I made the mistake in Ahmedabad of staying in a budget hotel. I forget the name of the place, but when I looked at the room in the afternoon it was right on proper so I reserved it knowing that I would be back in the evening to check in.

When I came back with my stuff I was told the room was given to someone else so I was given an alternate room at a discounted rate.

About an hour into sleeping the bed bugs started biting and it was nasty. I decided to go and try to sleep in the chair in the corner. While looking at my bed from the chair I noticed something underneath, peering under it I found the whole floor lined with used condoms.
It was just plain nasty....
