hi
I am travelling from London to Ahmedabad via Mumbai. I am planning to carry 2 liter of liquor from the duty free shop from London airport.

As my international flight will be only up to Mumbai and then i will take domestic flight from Mumbai for Ahmedabad (as a connecting flight) and my luggage will be transfer by the airlines.

Do I allow to clear the security check at the mumbai airport with a 2 liter of liquor bottles as it will be in the secure locked duty free bag.

isn't gujarat a state under prohibition? I am not sure of this at all.

Once upon a time, i was flying into the state that had prohibition too, so there were announcements on the address system, that anyone who had liquor was supposed to hand it over to the security guys at the landing airport. Nothing was said as long as the leg was international, but once we took the local flight, the announcements started.

there is another thread in IM on this, but the posts are 2009-2010. And most of the posters said they had done this multiple times without any problems. and not one of them said they had to hand the bottles over.

But then again, not everyone's luck runs the same.

I'd be interested to hear how you get on with this, since (once upon a time) you were not allowed to carry liquids including duty-free as 'carry-on' hand-luggage (liquids in excess of 100ml). Not sure what the rules are on that now? Reports in the local press of people 'complaining' that their liquor in their checked-in baggage had been damaged.

As far as bringing in liquor to Ahmedabad airport... you can pick up a 'liquor licence' at the airport itself (not sure whether at the domestic or international terminal), or so I'm told. I haven't tried this myself.

I haven`t brought alcohol into the domestic airport, but I regularly bring at least a 6-pack of beer through the international airport in checked luggage. No one has ever said a word.

It`s doubtful that you can get a permit at the airport - I enter a couple of times a year from abroad and have never seen any indication. You MIGHT get one at the Taj on the way out of the airport, but since proof of residence (like a hotel receipt) would be required, you`d be stuck unless you stay there.

Check in to a guest house and go to Cama Hotel or Sarovar Portico near the Old City and they can fix you up.
Wherever you go, there you are. And if you're traveling the world, you're just farther.

On arriving at Ahmedabad airport there is a duty free shop where you can get a tourist permit
Uh, the duty free is for departures, not arrivals at the international airport. And since the above line was written over a year ago and I know there wasn`t one as of last November, unsure of how it could help.

Interesting. Last time I flew in (international arrivals) - there was a 'liquor store' (which I'm assuming the blogger was referring to as 'duty free') next to the baggage carousels. I shall have to check this time on arrival back in Ahmedabad.
