Hi,
I'm a newbie around here... so if this question has been answered before, just point me in the right direction. Whenever I goto India, I've always used Mumbai airport, and even though it has it's fairshare of awkward/corrupt staff, it seems these days it's not that bad... But, I've heard Ahmedabad airport is much worse... I was just wondering if someone had been through there recently... If it's not much worse than Mumbai airport, then I don't mind since my in-laws live half-hour from there... but if is there a 'real' problem, I'd rather goto Mumbai airport and pass through the villages where my parents come from. (it's a 4 hour journey either way, but going through Ahmedabad airport would mean I can pop in to see the in-laws)... Thanks in advance... Vinu Last edited by vinusoma : Feb 11th, 2008 at 23:32. Dear Friend from UK
I am a regular traveler out of Ahmedabad and i find it immensely better than Mumbai or even Heathrow for that matter. You can get out in minutes without any hassles. Walk off thru the green channel (Just make sure that you don't carry any drugs or funny stuff; customs don't bother about most other things as they are cheaper in India). There is no hassle here compared to what you experience in US (profiling and racism) or UK (profiling & high nose). |

Thanks for the Info...
Most people I know who goto Gujarat go via Mumbai and when you ask them why they don't use Ahmedabad airport, they usually come up with the reason "someone told me 'this or that'" But it sounds OK from you say... Thanks again... Vinu Last edited by vinusoma : Feb 25th, 2008 at 14:35. Reason: spelling, grammar |

I have only one time experience in Ahmedabad airport. Frankly speaking I like more the Departure Hall rather that Arrivals. Arrivals seemed very small, and not like in Mumbai. But Check-in and Departure areas were very good, people very cheerful and nice. And I have also been to Mumbai airport, which is much more bigger than Ahmedabad, but in whole Ahmedabad is a good airport as well.

I didn't see Duty Free Shop at the airport, but I think even it is there, alcohol is not sold. Another thing is if you buy it in another Duty Free, i mean in other states or from abroad, and take it with you. Nobody will say anything, since my friend had bought a lot from abroad. But in Ahmedabad airport I don't think alcohol is available.

I am sure you can bring since my friend had bought from another Duty Free and he had no problem at the Ahmedabad Airport. Hope rules haven't changed during the last 4 months..

Hi Vinusoma,
I dont think A'bad airport is much of a hassle.... Gujarat being a dry state... carrying booze is not allowed...and IF and when you are caught...it'll be a long story that you would have to explain... would not really recommend doing it.... doesnt make sense carrying it....

Watch out for customs, they are dodgy (corrupt). I have flown in twice to Ahemdabad and both times they stopped me and fleeced me for cash as I was bringin in some electical goods,(laptop for work, Ipod, headphones, mobile phone).

If you have non Indian passport then there are shops who sell liquor. You will need your passport stamped in order to buy liquor. People typically tip the person who stamps your passport.
