7 hours in Ahmedabad, suggestions?

As things go, I'll be arriving in Ahmedabad in the afternoon from Jodhpur and will leave at 10pm on my way to Veraval - I have a few questions: is there a left luggage facility at the trainstation? I don't really want to be carrying my backpack around for that time. Or are there other options? Is it possible to get a room for a few hours? I have heard that this isn't possible if you are not staying overnight. And finally, what is a must see in Ahmedabad? Any advice would be great! Thanks!

I'm leaving at 10 pm, so I think that is a little irrelevant.

Thanks! Any idea what I could do with my backpack during this time? I don't really want to lug it around for all that time. It's only 7 hours.

If you are at Railway Station, you can keep it at the Cloak room, but all the zips should be locked with a pad lock in place.

Women are not allowed inside the mosque but there's not much to see anyway. It's rather small and not like one of those impressive, colorful mosques you might see elsewhere.

What I would really like to see is the Adalaj Vav, it's located outside Ahmedabad but this should be possible with the time I have?

Since you only arrive in the afternoon (and you don't know yet if your train is on time) it will be too late to take a bus so you would have to go by taxi. Theoretically also autorickshaw but I had difficulties telling them where I wanted to go even in Ahmedabad proper. It's probably better to stay in Ahmedabad. A good place to hang out before you go back to the station is the restaurant/snack bar on the ground floor of the House of MG (opposite Sidi Sayyed mosque) - I forget the name.... Green something...

Adalaj Vav and Akshardham temple are both located near Gandhinagar [about 15 kms from Ahmedabad] which can be easily reached by taxi.

On route you can also visit Sabarmati Ashram. [Gandhiji spent a lot of time here and started the Dandi march from here]

you can see the links below :

Note that Akshardam is closed on Mondays.

Actually there's said to be a (lit up) night market in downtown Ahmedabad, so maybe 10pm is even a little too early

luggage and outing!!

Yes, leave the luggage at the cloak room with all zips locked. You may not have much time if it is late to arrive and you must be back half an hour early to leave so why not try the Kankaria Lake and area around! Old parsi area around too. Good luck and safe journey.

Try Ginger Ahmedabad. This hotel offers rooms for day use and it's a very good deal and probably cheap too. (Rs. 999 - Rs. 1199). You can check it out at http://www.gingerhotels.com/ahmedaba...l_profile.aspx.
