5 days in Gujrat - itinerary help
We are planning to spend 5 days in Gujrat in December, and would like some help on itinerary.
We currently plan to arrive in Vadodora and depart from Ahmadabad. The reason for visiting is that we arrive in Delhi and have 6 days before we are due in Calcultta. We want to avoid tourists and the cold, so Gujrat looked like a good destination for our limited time.
More background: Don't want to cover maximum miles, prefer to have time to soak up the surroundings, are prepared to hire a car and driver for at least some of the time, and would like to stay in at least one of the old palaces (suspect budget will stop us staying in any more). Like to stay in atmospheric quirky places, rather than hotel chains, but like a reasonable level of comfort.
Any suggestions, please?

would u like to visit diu/beach destination. its about 8 hrs by taxi frm vadodara. if so i could make a few suggestions....along this route/side. alternatively around north gujarat u have pvagargh and modesara. then further away is kutch/bhuj...
We are not planning to spend time 'beaching' at that stage of our vacation (heading to Kerala later), although Diu looks like an interesting place to visit anyway. Would ne interested to know your thoughts.
Don't want to put on too many miles, so probably Kutch/Bhuj will have to wait for another trip. But would be interested in your suggestion around N Gujarat.
Thanks

Palitana and Girnar are superb, but lots of steps! Definitely recommended. Stay in Junagadh for Girnar.
Mt. Abu is just accross the border in RJ- some argue they are the finest marble temples in India.
