14 days in Gujarat
I’ve got 14 days to spend in Gujarat. My rough plan would be to spend
3 days in Bhuj 1 day to get to Junagadh 6 days Junagadh, Sasan, Palitana area 1 day to get to Ahmedabad 3 days Ahmedabad Questions: What’s the best way to get from Bhuj down south? And how long does it take? Is there anywhere along the way that would be worth stopping for a day to beak the journey? Is it possible to go to Modhera as a day trip from Ahmedabad? Is it worth trying to squeeze in a day to get to Somnath? I wish I had more time but you’ve got to make do with what you got. Any comments are much appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

During you stay at bhuj for 3 days, dont forget to visit Madvi beach and famous fort there, visit surrounding area of bhuj to get to know embroidery work (great work) of kutchi woman, speacilly "bandhani".
you can catch overnight bus to get to Junagarh, visit Sasan early morning to get glimpse of lions, best option of staying there is "Taj hotel" you can catch luxury coach to Ahmedabad (overnight journey), where you can visit Gandhiji's Sabarmati Ashram, sidhi saiyad mosque, Adalaj Vaav and ofcouse multiplexes and super malls. hope this info would help you better.. kashyap

Thanks for the info kashyap. I'm still a little torn on Sasan. I'd be getting there likely sometime between Christmas and new years. Can't aford the Taj, and I'd like to stay flexable by not booking ahead but I also have heard housing can get tight there. I thought it would be a nice change of pace from the other things I was doing. Can anyone strongly recomend one way or anouther. The other option would be to try to get to Dwarka.

Sasan Gir or Dwarka - very different places!
Most people go to Sasan Gir to see the lions but we were unlucky there. However, this didn't spoil our enjoyment of the place as we saw a lot of different species of birds on the jeep trip, and also spent time walking around the outskirts of the park. The Taj hotel is expensive and the Forest Dept accommodation is often booked up, but there are cheaper options around the village. ShirleyD has posted a review of the Anil Farmhouse in the hotels section. Dwarka is a quiet little pilgrimage town with ghats and temples and one of the best Gujarati thali restaurants we have found - the Dwarkadesh. Again, it's just a great place to be in and we spent our days walking around town, buying a few things in the bazaars (beadwork is a speciality here) and having countless cups of chai. We stayed at the State run guesthouse on the edge of town which was convenient for watching the sunset from the nearby cliffs. It's an "old style" tourist bungalow place with spacious rooms, hot water and very welcoming management. You're obviously tight on time though, and the problem is that travel in parts of Gujarat, especially by bus along the Saurashtra coast, is slow. You might have to forget about Dwarka, or drop a day off from somewhere else. |

Thanks for the reply Alan D. Its a shame I have so little time this time around but I hope to be back within a year with several months but I'm not sure I'll make it back to Gujarat, so much to see.

Well You need not to book in advance in Sasan, one generally get accomodation as its not too full in any season, you can go directly, try two three diffrent hotels/Dharamshala's for your budget... As Alan said, Dwarka and sasan is too diffrenet place, Dwarka is bit spiritual while Sasan its like wildlife santuary for lions... kashyap |
