1 night trip from Ahmedabad
Hi,
I am in Ahmedabad for 2 weeks and would like to make a two-days one night trip to a nearby decent tourist destination (could be in Gujarat or Rajasthan). I have no constraints regarding days, i.e. can visit the place during week or during week-end. Any recommendations? Many thanks in anticipation. |

Just to get you started , what about
Mount Abu? 220km, so 4 hours drive. http://www.rajasthantourism.gov.in/d...ntoverview.htm Or (this is further) Diu? About 370km, so it is a long drive (7 hours?), but there are supposed to be flights from Ahmedabad as well, I think. http://www.diutourism.co.in/ |

Thanks for the tips.
Is Mt Abu in this season (monsoons) a good option? Of course, any other city/village/tourist spot would have the same disadvantages due to monsoon but here this question simply because of the "Mount" part. |

Monsoons should not hit Abu before mid/end July, as far as I know.
Maybe other members have better information. |

Peter,
I second the option suggested by Captain. Abu will be the best getaway from Ahmedabad. If you like to try Indian Railways, there are plenty of trains leave from Ahmedabad. Also lots of private/gujarat government buses. About Rain...It'll be hit and miss and not much different from other destinations in Gujarat. I was born and raised in Ahmedabad and have visited Abu many times. Last time I was there in 2005 August and no rain but very very foggy. Plenty of good hotels in Abu. We stayed in Samrat International and Maharaja Hotel...both are at walking distance from main market, bus stop and Nakki Lake. You can also explore Runn of Kutch if you decide not to go to Abu. |

you can go to palitana 4-5 hrs by road. there are buses from ahmedabad .
reach there in the evening so that you can climb up the next day. also go to a place called hastagiri(for jain temples and good views) near palitana. |

Udaipur and environs could also be nice during a wet spell.
From Udaipur one can explore Aravalis--Kumbhalgarh or Chittore |
