Wi-Fi in Goa

Hi people,

Just a quickie, anyone know of any good wi-fi spots in Goa? I know the big hotels often do but I'd like to avoid them if possible. I don't mind paying for it like in a coffee house or something, just a reasonably good connection so i can update my website. We're off to Vagator to begin with, how difficult will it be there?

Vagator as far as I know has no wifi hotspot. The only hotspot in the whole of North Goa is the Apple Corner opposite Hotel Fidalgo in Panjim. This a free service.

Oh well, how good are the internet cafes? I could always connect via a mini ethernet.

I used the internet cafe in Calangute loads during Nov & Dec last, speeds aren't great but it worked every day i was there.

Sify cyber cafes in Goa: This is a list of 256kbps + (usually) Sify iway cybercafes in Goa. I found the service fairly good. Rs 25 per hour of Net usage. (Note that the Indian definition of "broadband" is 256Kbps.)

BSNL broadband service in Goa

What are the options available if you're planning to stay in
Goa longer? BSNL, long the government-run dominant telecom
player and ISP in Goa, offers its broadband service -- but
only in some parts of Goa. Currently this covers the main
towns and bigger cities.

For instance, you can apply for broadband if you're based in
Aldona, Anjuna, Aquem, Bambolim, Siolim, Bogmalo, Benaulim,
Cuncolim, Canacona, Candolim, Chichali, Calangute, Colva,
Dona Paula, Fort Aguada, Mangor, Merces, Fatorda, Margao,
Miramar, Mapusa, Pato Panjim, Ponda, Porvorim, Ribandar,
Sada, Sancoale, Saligao, Verna and Verna.

Minimum charges under the home plan are Rs 250 per month.
Business plan costs Rs 700 per month, at the lowest. In the
Rs 250 plan, if you're buying modem it would cost you Rs
1200, installation charges Rs 250, registration Rs 100. Under
this plan, you get 1 GB of free upload/download per month,
with an additional charge of 80 paisa per GB of data uploaded
and downloaded.

This obviously make sense only if you're staying on for a
longer period -- not a few days. There is a waiting list to
get access to this service in some parts of Goa (like Margao,
Panjim, and Vasco).
