Thumbs down Why has Goa let is beach get so dirty.

The Shacks are starting to be built, but the beaches are a disgrace with bottles, litter, plastic strewn everywhere.
Do they not have council people to clean the beaches in readiness for the Tourists - or don't they care.

Will they have the rubbish collected from the shacks this season?
or left on the road for the cattle to distribute.

I was told by one of the shack owners, that it becomes their reponsibility to keep their section of the beach clean. Can some one confirm this? If true, then the beaches would become more trashed when the shack were not operational as the shack owners would not be cleaning up the beach off season.

possible. plus, monsoon tides bring up lots of debris.

in an ideal world everyone would take responsibility for their own rubbish...

Yes the monsoon tides have brought up all the rubbish, but milk cartons, pastic bottles glass. The shacks are not even up yet.
Would think that the "Councillors" would get on with their jobs and arrange proper garbage disposal, and beach cleaning before
the tourists arrive, instead of infighting. In the season, we see women cleaning the beach, and a good job they do.

Our shack cleans the front and back of their shack, right down to the sea every morning. It is a credit to them.

Mickky Pacheco, the Tourism Minister , has invited tenders for beach cleaning. Shacks will have their garbage collected. This was decided at a Cabinet meeting on Monday.

We can but HOPE. The Ministers are soooooooooooooooo slow at everything - you would have thought they would have had this
sorted before the Tourist season, and have had the shack licences allotted in September so that those on the first
charters can enjoy their holiday in Goa.

I could never understand why those people in yellow jackets walk the beach and pick up plastic bottles from the beach side when behind the shacks the ditches are full of rubbish,no one cleans that up .
As Mr Kingfisher has a huge house in Candolium i am always tempted to dump a lorry load of his plastic bottles over his wall, see how he likes having them scattered around his yard !
The worse thing the Indians do is burn the plastic bottles. One year i had to get a Inhaler from the chemist because i couldnt breath with all the burning going on around my apartment . I have never ever suffered with my breathing before,in the end i went to Ashuvm beach for a week to breath cleaner air .

we stayed at Agonda, which was really clean until someone dumped a whole load of rubbish on the beach one morning.

some people have no sense of civic pride.

Patti I think we should all take our Kingfisher water bottles and anything with Mr. Kingfishers name and leave it outside his villa, or as you say over the wall. I am sure he has enough
clout to start the ball rolling for a Cleaner Goa - he definately has enough money.
What a good idea Patti.

Strange, I've visited 4 Goan beaches, all either during or just after the monsoon, and whilst I wasn't impressed by any of them, I didn't find them dirty, maybe I just got lucky.

BTW why is Mr Kingfisher (If I'm thinking of the correct fella) disliked so much?

Also, why are the people so apethetic? Why can't the shackies organise a collective effort to keep their neighbourhoods clean? It can't be that difficult..I mean, come on, the whole wide world manages to do it.

Because he is rich?

And because people like to whine.
