Well we are going to Goa.

Hi. Have been viewing this site for quite a while now, and find it very interesting.

As our user name would suggest, we are going to live in Goa, we are going to Candolim next week to dot some I's and cross some T's.

Would like to hear (good or bad view's) on anyone doing the same.

PS Will also be looking to rent an apartment for quite a while.

Thanks.

Hi Casey.

Yes we are looking forward to the adventure. It's going to be very interesting finding out what we have to do to actully finish up living in Candolim. We appreciate it's going to be a lot different from spending 2/3 weeks on holiday, but we cant wait to leave the UK, and get settled down.

Hopefully by the end of this year we can move over there.

wellcome to Goa.
On short recent visit I met so many UK expats there, you would be surprised. Did Goa replace Costa del Sol or Lazure shore?

Fed up british

Threr are a lot of people in the UK who are fed up, and would leave tomorrow if they could.

NHS is falling apart. Pensions are a complete farce. The police have got it in for the motorist's. Council Tax keeps going up. The town centers are more or less no go area's at the weekend. It's not going too be much fun growing old in the UK, and as we are not far off that, we would rather grow old in Goa. And of course THE WEATHER

pardon me, I've mentioned it before, quite why everyone is going on about the NHS is slightly worrying.

My u'standing is, that for working your arse off, you get 'free' coverage which an average american would die for(figuratively speaking, of course). Granted, htere are delays, shortages and free loaders.

Instead of trying to fix that, why does everyone curse the NHS? Even if the published stats by the Dept. of Health is off by say 60%, it's still a considerable savings for persons involved.

Really, since no one is a trapeze artist of health, why do you want to remove the one safety net and castrate the NHS.

My relatives are doctors in the UK and by the way they work, they have their calendar full for at least 9 months of the year. their life is 'mechanical' in that, everyday they do at least 2 procedures ranging from the simple to the complicated with lots of OP work. Quite why anyone thinks NHS is not working.....

Genuinely puzzled!

Sorry for you and your country. Do not take my probably unsolicited advice too close to heart - to avoid possible disenchantment with India or Goa did you think about other destinations, for example Kerala, Rajasthan, Karnataka or Himalayas? I heard from british expats in Goa some complains too.

Re the NHS in the UK

BUT IT IS falling apart. It may seem to other countries that we get healthcare at the point of delivery and as and when we need it, but be assured this is so far from the truth!!
Our government may want you to all think that they supply for all our health needs, but they most certainly do not!!
I am curently in the middle of a campaign against the govrnment for there appalling treatment of our children and adults with mental health problems!! and I am fully aware that there are many many other deserving causes and illnesses that do not get the treatment they need. UNLESS of course they choose to go ove to somewhere like India for it and pay a 1/4 of what the private sector in the UK would charge!!! I have had cause to be in hospital in India, and have to say the service and care i received was far far better than i would ever have got in the UK. OK i had to pay, but believe me it was extremely good value!!

Be assured that they will drive you mad over the next year. At times you will be close to tears. Ways of doing things are completely different from what you're used to. But when it's done you can sit back and enjoy.

Hey GoGoa. Good for you two! Me and my bloke are having a place built at the moment in Arpora. It's all very exciting and we can't wait to get out there and live....eventually, between 3 & 5 years time. We travelled India back in 1998 and fell in love with it and always thought that Goa would be a great pleace to live. So, now we're doing it 8 years on, the dream is becoming reality and I've no regrets so far. We went back for a holiday in Feb and to specifically look for a place or plot after doing months of research. We found exactly what we had in mind. Next Feb will be our next visit to choose our finishes - floor tiles, kitchen etc etc. I still love Goa even tho it's changed and become busy. It's the friendliness of the locals that especially makes it for me and the whole vibe and lifestyle. Good luck you too. Grab it by the horns!!
