warning - knife point mugging Cavelossim
Two weeks ago an older couple staying at our hotel in Cavelossim were mugged of all their bags/camera etc by knifepoint in Goa between the Dona Silvia and past an army training area - be careful - they were not hurt but were shaken. Do not go for long walks along areas where there are no other people, or after the beach shacks totally run out. This is a serious piece of advice.

Sad new indeed, I really hope this doesn't become a "norm" in Goa, where I've always felt so safe!!

Goa has had a ‘chilli’ mugging problem for a couple of years, chilli powder gets thrown in your eyes and your money/camera is taken.
I've read about 15 of these incidents in the last couple of years, mainly in quiet/deserted streets/beaches near Anjuna/Calangute or Colva/Benaulim. These incidents are still big news, which shows how rare they are, and to put things into perspective, there are about 15 muggings a week reported in my local newspaper, and this only covers about 5% of London.
