Why are you getting of the train at vasco ? Thats a port . Margao is a train station you can get off at.Tivin train station is the one i get off.Its about a 30 minute taxi from Tivin ,then your in Calangute. Your going to have to look for rooms when you are there.

Colva is the nearest beach from Margao.
From Vasco take a bus to Panjim and from Panjim you will get lots of buses going to Calangute as well as Candolim. |

Tivin is usually where i get off,30 minute taxi ride to Calangute.Vasco is on the same road as the airport ,but instead of turning left to go up the airport road you carry straight on to Vasco .It a long way up that road, its where the port is .
Thinking about it more Vasco is not a bad place to get off the train <i never knew it stopped there> You can get buses or taxi from there. Like jyotirmoy said Margao is close to Colva, depends what beach you want to see. Calangute is nearer to Tivin train station. |

Tivim is very small staion as compared to Madgaon or Vasco, not many trains have a stoppage at Tivim..
Calangute is close to Mapusa(Mapusa..12km from Panjim).Tivim to Mapusa is 20 min journey..So Tivim -->Mapusa-->Calangute.. May be there might be a direct route which connects Tivim to Calangute. Calangute is one of the best beaches in Goa... |

Brisso. I am trying to think if they have a short cut they can take to Arambol.I just text my friend in Goa and see if they know how much a motorcycle taxi is. Get back to you later.
Another thought is you could share a taxi with someone who is going to Arambol. Just got a reply , it should be 200rs to Arambol .Mind you thats for a local person. So a foreigner be 1000rs ! No just having a laugh it probably be what you said 250rs. |

The train from Howrah (Kolkata) does not pass through Thivim only trains from Mumbai. I believe (not sure) that Madgaon may be more convenient to the beaches in South Goa and Vasco closer to the beaches in the north. I would probably get down at Madgaon and go south.

Madgaon seems to be the most convenient for the southern beaches, though Vasco doesn't seem all that far off, either. There is one train that serves both Margao/Madgaon and Vasco de Gama from Howrah, the VSG-Howrah Express. It only travels on certain days of the week, so watch for that.
Said train stops at Margao first, then terminates in Vasco, so if you're going to a southern beach it's probably quicker to get off at Margao to avoid doubling back. |
