yup i know exactly what u mean...
its a disaster to try and eat in one of the shacks and its impossible to survive on pasta!!!
so umm... the german bakery in anjuna.. the one in the main market area...not the one next to curlies... but the other one...
is very nice...it has a variety of food for breka lunch and dinner... they even serve regular dal chawal.. which is best food after a drunken hangover really!

also there is orange boom... in ajuna only i think...which had a really nice variety of breakfast... and i like the place...neat and clean types..

then there was thi splace called.. niti's or something... which had ok ok type indian food.. i forgot where it was!

i forgot the names of the other places me and my frnds discovered will ask them and get back to u here!

best of luck!!!

xavier's on the way to curlies is probably my favorite restaurant in north goa, not strictly veggie but has enough on the menu to please me and my girl, the organic salads they do are insane.
bean me up ain't bad either

Veggie restaurants in Panjim

In Panjim, there's a lot of interesting veg food that suits my modest, low-budget tastes! Try Vihar near the GPO (Rs 30 for a full meal), or Sarovar at Sant Inez (same price, related to that management). Gujarat Lodge, a bit costlier, at Rs 40 or so, along 18th June Road, is also good... a little bit on the richer (read: oily) side, and the food is sweeter. But lovely khidchi and butter-milk.

I'm a fish-eating impure vegetarian. So my favourite Goan fish-based eating out places (usually for a quick dinner or lunch on a working day) include Anandasharam (in the lanes behind the GPO, quaint Goan-style rice plates for Rs 25) or Ritz (not the Classic, but the humbler version).

You'll find a short, informal video-report on Anandasharam on this page [http://www.youtube.com/profile_video...n oronha&p=r] or go directly there via [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bz3j5nuoBQQ]

Bon appetite, FN

am looking for restaurant recommendations (breakfast, lunch, dinner) where i can have a good vegetarian meal (any cuisine), which doesn't taste like an after-thought. not sure where exactly i will stay, but it will definitely be in baga or calangute (or candolim perhaps). all recommendations within bardez/ north goa are welcome.

thanks,
hema

Plantain Leaf has really gone downhill. The prices are quite high for the standard of that restaurant and my guess is that this restaurant is mainly interested in catering to a foreign clientele due to its location.

Navtara in Mapusa is far better. Very clean with excellent service and reasonable prices. I used to have an evening snack at this restaurant with my chauffeur almost every day from November 2007 to February 2008. They have a sister restaurant in Panjim which is older but getting parking outside this restaurant is very difficult because it is in the market.

Here's three that all get my vote. For those on a budget, the third listing is your best option!

Home at Patnem

Blue Planet Cafe at Palolem

Udupi in Chaudi

Enjoy! - Dave

The TravelBar opposite the Ice Factory in Candolim does a very nice tofu dish and few good salads.

La Fenice, in the lane opposite the Ice Factory has a nice variety of veggie crostinies and ok veg pizzas

New Veggie in Calangute

Tomorrow 8th Dec 08 is the first day opening of a new Udupi Pure Veg restaurant in Calangute - it is called Anand Sagar and is near to the Sportsman Bar.
Coming from Candolim go past the church in the middle of the road and travel towards Calangute for about 200 mtrs and it is on the left hand side opposite a large supermarket.
Went to the puja today and the snacks and sweets were good.
Prices excellent - same as Navtara in Mapusa and more or less the same menu - not your usual Calangute rip off prices.
When it is up and running they are going to introduce an all you can eat buffet for 99rps.
Going for lunch tomorrow to check it out.
