Exclamation URGENT: Looking for Independent House in Goa for 11 month Lease - Please Help

Hi, This is my first time on IndiaMike.com and this is my first post as well. i saw through the other threads and this seemed like the ideal place to get some information.

Here's what i need:

1. A 2 bedroom independent house or villa - around 1000 sq.ft. minimum - anywhere in Goa (even the remotest parts) - Budget - INR 8,000.00 - 12,000.00 - Preferably Furnished.
2. I am planning to move to Goa, from my current home in New Delhi, with my Wife and Two Dogs. The Dogs are our life and it is absolutely imperative that they also come with us.
3. We don't mind something in the interiors of the state. In fact, we would prefer something far away from madding crowds to be honest.
4. We both work from home so can anyone tell me if there is any scope for broadband connection or do I have to use my phone?
5. Is Airtel available there? if not, then which is the most reliable phone and Internet connection?
6. WE ARE LOOKING TO MOVE BEFORE 1st of AUGUST BECAUSE THAT IS WHEN OUR LEASE EXPIRES HERE IN DELHI. WE NEED SOMETHING BEFORE THAT. I AM COMING DOWN TO GOA IN THE SECOND WEEK OF JULY. WILL APPRECIATE ANYTHING IN TERMS OF PHONE NUMBERS OF BROKERS, PROPERTY OWNERS OR ANYTHING THAT CAN HELP.
7. We don't have much preference in terms of appearance or aesthetics of the house, just that it needs to be livable.

Guys, I am really looking for some help here. We are both Indians and have gone through a number of websites for these property dealers and all. However, we have no way of knowing what is right and wrong without actually going down there and that is what I am precisely doing next week. I need some information - ANYTHING... before I reach there so that I can start my search.

I have no preference in number of floors and whether it has a terrace or not. As long as it has a minimum of 2 bedrooms, is of the required size (because the dogs need space to live) and is of decent build and quality, we have no issues. Travelling will not be a problem cause I will be bringing down my own car.

Please let me know if there is anything that any of you know of. If not, I would really appreciate a point in the right direction.

Here's hoping for some good help... and FAST!!!

First, welcome to India Mike! This is indeed a great place to get information.

1. A 2 bedroom independent house or villa - around 1000 sq.ft. minimum - anywhere in Goa (even the remotest parts) - Budget - INR 8,000.00 - 12,000.00 - Preferably Furnished.

You should be able to get an independent house for your budget but you will need a bit of luck. A flat is certainly possible. I know of a 2B flat in Saligao first floor with a balcony, rent INR 10,000 but I don't know if they allow dogs. In any case it should be possible to find plenty such places. When in Goa have a look at the advertisements in the windows of supermarkets like LuMa and Newtons in Candolim and Ajay's in Mapusa.

2. I am planning to move to Goa, from my current home in New Delhi, with my Wife and Two Dogs. The Dogs are our life and it is absolutely imperative that they also come with us.

What kind of dogs? Do they need lots of walking?

3. We don't mind something in the interiors of the state. In fact, we would prefer something far away from madding crowds to be honest.

You do not need to go far insight to be able to leave the crowds behind. Parra, Arpora, Saligao, Pilerne, Siolem are all not too far so you can still easily use all facilities but are far enough to be relieved from all the negatives that comes with tourist crowds.

4. We both work from home so can anyone tell me if there is any scope for broadband connection or do I have to use my phone?

Internet is a pain. This is another reason not to move too far into the interiors. In the above mentioned villages you should be able to get BSNL, VSNL, and Tata Indicom. Perhaps also others but these are the ones I know.

5. Is Airtel available there? if not, then which is the most reliable phone and Internet connection?

In our experiences BSNL and VSNL offer the best service. But if you depend on internet I recommend you take two connections with different providers.

I would suggest you also get in contact with Angeline of the TravelBar (goafootprints@yahoo.co.uk). She knows lots of people and has some places for rent. If you tell her that you came through her 'dog friend' she will know and will help out.

Hi birds,

Thanks for all the information will definitely follow up on this. I will be going to Goa sometime next week to check out all possible options. Will get in touch with Angeline as well. As for the dogs, one is a cross between a labrador and a stray while the other one is a stray, and is still a puppy, and hence needs a lot of exercise.

Thanks again for your help, will check out the places you have mentioned for sure.

Happy it is useful too you. I will tell Angeline to expect your email and will also ask around. By the way, Angeline also runs one of the best restaurants in Goa and is fond of animals too.

Good to hear you have strays :-). So a house near a field would be useful so they can run. There are some good places to walk with dogs but generally not the beach (in tourist season too many tourists, in the off season too many hungry other dogs).

Just mailed Angeline

I just sent an email to Angeline requesting the same from her, actually wife did.

Both of us are animal lovers too, we also happen to have 7 cats, though they will be staying back in Delhi when we move, but with my parents.

I hope we are able to find a place when we come down there, and it will be great to arrive with some information beforehand. Also, could tell us if there is something we need to watch out for when dealing with property dealers??

Thanks again for all your help..
