Thinking of returning to Goa for holiday after 30 years

Hi everyone
I am thinking of returning to Goa after not being there for nearly 30 years, i was out there in the 70s. and spent most of 74/75/76/77/78/79 traveling around India, nepal, thailand, aswell as pakistan and Afghanistan.

What does anyone think about the return trip? as i have mixed feelings about going back.

What is there to think? Just go for it, and tell us how you feel afterwards.

You'll love the climate.......and it may help you get over the depression you'll feel when you see how the place has changed.

If you go back to Goa, no doubt the popular small seaside villages you stayed in are now screaming huge resorts, so maybe someone could suggest "new" small places that aren't yet overrun.

If you think your memories would be spoiled when you see how much the place has changed, which it inevitably has, how about going to a part of India you haven't travelled to before? Kerala for example could be a somewhat "Goa like" alternative which you can enjoy on its own merits without knowing how much nicer it was 30 years ago?

Thats a good Idea, i traveled most of Kerala and Tamil Nadu when i was out there too, so it would be good to see how places like Kumili and Kodia Kanal have changed hopefully not as much as Goa.

When i first left baga in 1975 i was driving a coach with a guy called leon, we went most places in India.

Indiamike could organise a hippy reunion in Goa, 50 or so 1960's travellers meet in Calangute and show the new tourists how to party, a camp fire on the beach, a bit of woodstock and a load of naked bidi smoking geriatrics, it would scare the hell out of the tourists.

There are probably still some great places to visit, but most have rooms available, bars and cafes, so not in the same spirit as the 60's, there are maybe other places to discover, but as we get older, have we still the enthusiasm, and the 'couldn't care less' attitude, never mind the time to discover these places?????

Are you on facebook Les? If so add yourself to my friends list. Loads of the old Anguna crowd are back in touch and I think I saw your name on the list of people not yet found. This forum is a bit public to go into details.

It will make you feel very sad indeed if you hold onto the old memories of what it was. You truly can't go back. If you can discard the baggage of memory its okay.

Actually, if found on the internet, lol (or lolz) means laugh out loud or laughing out loud.

SMS abbreviations auch as u, gr8, y, l8r, ur, 2moro, b4 and so on are against the rules of this site, as they are unfair on people whose first language isn't English, but common internet abbreviations ones like OP (original post / poster), IMHO (in my humble opinion), YMMV (your mileage may vary) and ROFL (roll on the floor laughing) and lol do often slip through. So far I have managed to avoid the temptation to say RTFM (read the f-ing manual) when giving more obvious visa advice.
