This is a poem from Vol 2 no 1. Full Moon November 1975.

Pig's Delight

It's not just a rumour or idle talk
That pigs re-cycle the sh*t into pork:
So where would be Goa's disposal rights
If the pigs did not have good appetites?

They gobble with relish and pray for more
And patiently wait at the sh*t-house door:
So with Epsom salts and syrup of figs
Please do think kindly of Goanese pigs,
So sh*t well and truly and do what's right,
For what you don't want, is a pig's delight.

DADAJI 1975

Sorry folks, happy to post a few poems, articles, quotes etc, but don't want millions of scanned copies of some of my rarest possessions flying round cyber-space.

Interesting though, just looked at the edition the poem came from (Vol 2, November 1975), and they only published 900 copies, I thought there were thousands of us!!!

Also, this edition doesn't have any copyright warnings; the other two editions (Jan and February 1975, have copyright warnings), I don't want to get sued by an angry ex-freak in a suit for breach of copyright, lol.

I hadn't looked at them for years, it was my wife who remembered she had stored them somewhere, and dug them out yesterday (day we got back from Goa).

Some of the articles would make interesting reading for scholars of social anthropology.

It certainly shocked me, now that the nearest thing to a stimulant I use is the odd diet coke with my brandy, that we actually appreciated and revered some of the absolute cr*p written.

I used to rent a house on the beach, and fly back to Mumbai for work every month.

An American called Babu (? ex-californian real estate), with his ex-flight attendant wife and two kids used to live in one of my spare rooms while I was away. They were still there when I left end-November 1975, any-one remember them?

I remember them being totally stoned one night and p**ssed off with me because I wouldn't take all four of them on my motorbike from Calangute to Anjuna for the Full moon party. Have you ever tried reasoning with folks so stoned they were happy to embrace any new experience, even death or injury?? Never mind the obvious fact that I couldn't have got five on a bike anyway!!

Yeah but I'm a wannabe hippy who WOULD NEVER cave into capitalist whims!!

Ok.................. so send me an extract or two!!

I might be able to supply a page or two of It!!!!

On a more serious note perhaps you might be able to help (or maybe you want to be discreet, it's one of those kind of stories)

There's a guy born of a hippy Dad in Goa, that is looking to find find his roots.

It's a long shot but you never know, here's the link to the thread! Help Me Find My Father

ahh the piggy loo's! remember them well! the grunting of them there pigs awaiting their fodder! and the strong, long cane to poke through the hole if they were a bit keen..... memories!!

also remember the 'restaurant' next door tying down one day, butchering the next their pigs and a couple of days later the sausages drying on the washing line covered in flies..... couldnt bring myself to eat them after I witnessed all this. Before that, i enjoyed them spicy little devils but now.........

Perhaps I'm a minority of 1 here, but I'm happy the pig toilet is gone.
Hygenic? no!
everyone was always getting sick... but then they still are.

21st Century Pig?

...and I'm working on something web-based, at the moment, very interesting for anyone who was around in India (particularly Goa) around the seventies. It includes making scans of old Stoned Pig issues available. I do have the complete collection, still, including much of the original artwork. I also have all issues of my other publications of the era, EastTrip Magazine, Mantra magazine and Goahead magazine. It's time to revive the spirit...

Any copyright (or, better, Creative Commons licence) is to stop anyone making money out of my intellectual ownership, without giving me a cut and to make sure I get credited, as the owner. Otherwise, it'll be there (when it's ready for release) for the people's use - enjoy :-)

Paper bags made out of glued newspaper are still around - I've been given them in Mumbai, Gunthur and Ranchi. Although I think newspaper recycling may kill that quirk .... but there still seems to be plenty of other quirks left:

Ox cart gas cylinder deliveries
Camel powered water trucks
Nuts in paper cones
Bicycle milk deliveries
Sugar cane squashing machines
And the 'Jugad' is still chugging around in the North

My brain has always found it difficult to take anything at face value, It can be a trial not to just accept without questioning.

Now then; the pigs eat their own vegetable food from scrounging and burrowing around, they also eat with seeming relish the vacated results of the human species digestive system, yes?;

If the human has been eating pork, do they leave this little jobby (Scottish for crap) and move on to something else, or, are they cannibalistic?

If they recycle all their own waste and indeed the waste of every other defecating creature by consuming it, they should by my perhaps flawed reasoning, be self sufficient? If, as I am told, there is sufficient nutrient in this effluvia to sustain the pig and keep it healthy and it is quite normal, Supposing the human species di...........................

No I shall leave it at that point. Forget that I started this.

What about the wells

I think that too few people have mentioned the real problem with the extinction of piggy toilets in tourist areas (officially i think it is now illegal) Which is an ecological disaster based on the amount of overflow septic tanks built within such a close distance to the wells which are still (and need to be) used by the locals to drink and cook. I’m sure there are laws about overflow septic tanks and water sources that aren’t being followed and real sickness due to contaminated water as well as malaria will be the result. It wasn't a perfect system and could make going to the toilet a bit of a scare, but I think it was better than the current disaster.

Way back, nearly a year ago, I mentioned on this forum that I was working on something "very interesting for anyone who was around in India (particularly Goa) around the seventies". Well the site is up now and can be enjoyed at The Stoned Pig website. It is totally non-commercial and includes a digital copy of the every issue of "The Stoned Pig" ever published and a special forum for the old India-heads from the sixties & seventies. It is a work in progress and in a fledgling state, so please accept it that way and help to make it grow, if you wish. At least enjoy the trip ....

That's great stuff Tarotray - love the editorial notes on the local 'personalities of the day'. The Jpgs take a 2-3 minutes to load on my dial-up windows 98 system .... but will revisit the sight in detail once I upgrade.
