The RunDown: Goa good bad and ugly info?

So having never been to Goa, I'm hoping everyone else can help me with this: which beaches are good for what? I've used the Bible (otherwise known as the Lonely Planet) elsewhere in india, but it's the 2001 version, and I'm sure Goa has changed radically over the past three years.

So which beach is the best party beach? Which one is the best hide-from-it-all beach? Which beach is the best work-on-your-tan-and-your-client-list beach? Which beach is the worst for prices/value? Which is the best?

A comprehensive list would be very helpful, i think, for everyone new to Goa.

Also: I'm looking to long-term rent in Goa after my travel companion goes back to the US on Dec.15th. we're heading to goa this weekend - will i have any chance of finding and securing a place for a reasonable rate starting from Dec. 15th? I'll be staying through Mid march, and understand i'll have to pay some extra for the end of dec. period. I'm really looking for a place on or near the beach, must have power and water (no AC or hot water needed but i can't live without fans!). I'd prefer somewhere quieter but if i HAVE to, I can handle a party or two (or three or.... Any advice?

your best bet is to get there and talk to the other tourists to see whats happenning.. Activites in goa are not organized way in advance (may be just NYE). As seventie's hippee as pointed out, there are number of threads here that can prepare you as you have never been to Goa.
