The problems associated with package tourists

The Charter Curse
By V. M. de Malar

It seems so long ago when Goa received its first charter flight from Europe. That pioneering effort by Condor landed less than two decades ago into a tourism landscape that’s completely unrecognizable from the vantage point of today’s high season mayhem. We had a functioning tourism economy already.

But it was skewed to a bare handful of five star establishments (which is where those Condor passengers went), and our beaches remained pristine, living expanses of broad sand with untouched rolling dunes and mature stands of coconut palms beyond the high tide mark.
