The monsoon period, what will it be like

This question has probably been on the board before, but I take my chances!

How many bars, restaurants, shops etc close during the monsoon period? Will I see much difference in Panaji, Calangute when it comes to range etc?

And, does anyone know if the Eden Bar in Calangute is closed in June?

My apologies if anyone finds this thread to be repeatedly!

Don't know whether the Eden bar is closed during the monsoon but you will find the shacks on the beach will be closed. The major restaurants like St. Anthony's bar and Britto's in Baga will be open albeit with a limited menu. Overall you will notice a big difference on any beach you go to.

If Panjim's anything like last year, you'll be swimming.

But, there will not be much difference in Panjim? Because that's where we will be "floating about"!

99% Closed.

Short and Sweet Answer = 99% closed. (beach-area)
Shacks = 100% closed.
They even fold their tents, tables and refrigerators and take it back ..somewhere..

This would be my second-monsoon here. Monsoon's are horrible - blackouts, restaurants / bars closed...and it rains 24x7. I used to visit the bars in Baga / Fisherman's Cove in Candolim.

If you are a coffee-fan, you can try out the Cafe Coffee Day in Baga.

Thanks
-Condor.

I stay in Candolim (It's about 3 kms from Calangute).

Smile Yes there is a bar open!

Best bar to go to in monsoon (or any other time) is the Monsoon Bar in Betalbatim, South Goa. Europeans on holiday and those who live in Goa frequent this place from breakfast till late at night. In the season the staff will bring drinks and food to the beach. Its very close. In monsoon there is no beach! The sea comes right up to the coconut trees.

Monsoon Bar is located between Majorda Beach and Colva Beach.
I have stayed in this area at different times of the year and even at the place itself. Rooms are simple but ok.
Check on google it comes up there.

Monsoon can be very annoying when there is no power and the rain goes on and on. It can be dangerous too when cables break and land in the water but the worst time is for about four weeks when everything is so wet due to the damp in the air that there are no dry clothes to put on.
Many Indian people take holidays in Goa specially in the monsoon to swim in the rain. It can be very exciting but not for more than three weeks!

I was in Panjim and Calangute in the Monsoon season last year during the time that Mumbai had its most rainfall..The rain wasnt THAT bad...I liked it more in the Monsoon season, less people...the only bad thing was that the train was delayed from Mumbai to Goa because it had to go slower and slower because of the monsoons!
Restaurants and shops were open..

Palolem last september, only evening showers, no mega downpours and packed - was amazed at the number of backpackers who had sought out that wee spot, considering I had not seen another white skinned being coming down through MP and Maharastra. And virtually everything open with more and more opening every day.
